I have a lawn mower with a 3.5hp Briggs and Stratton engine. I put a new primer bulb on the carb...
today and the mower will only run for a short time until the fuel is gone from priming it. It won't start then unless I prime it again then it will die and won't go until it's primed. Would you know what would be wrong with my mower. Any help is greatly appreciated.
I'm not familiar with that engine, and I've not mucked about with petrol engines since the sixties; however, it sounds like the prime tank is not re-filling quickly enough, or at all. Do you have a blockage from your fuel tank to the carburettor? Often, the filter in the petrol tank outlet can silt up and slow the flow, a kink in the feed pipe can also slow the flow. Check these things before getting a mechanic.
You must have a plugged fuel line, just take it off at both ends and blow it clean, making sure you feel the air going thru, then hook it up and you should be okay. The old Briggs and Stratton engines (I ve had several) were notorious for that. good luck

Would electrical tape wrapped around a lawn mower fuel line stop a leak at least temporarily?
