   From what I've seen the more active you are in writing, answering questions and asking questions, commenting on hubs and in the forums the more followers you get.

   As a writer, it is very rewarding to know that someone is reading your work.  We scramble around and try to get published and get those "letters."  Here we get that reinforcement we need and it is very rewarding to know we have an audience.
   
   I try to read a lot of profiles, and Hubs and always comment.  I answer questions, ask a few and try to post a time or two in the forums.  Also you can "share" your work on your Facebook page which may get someone reading and following you.

   The benefit of following is learning and sharing knowledge. The benefit of being followed is the ability to wake others up. The world is Compartmentalized. Segregated. Its easy to brain wash others with fear and the like. People like sheep will in trust those put in to position to act as a proper spokes person. The world is not set up for you to learn  and prosper from but for you to be indoctrinated into. To keep others in power and power is wealth. Inter net is No different and not set up to aid you to prosper. Even blogs will say ..warning content to promotional, Over two links. Wake up people. In order to stop this idiocy. And prosper as A  true free people. We have to just stop excepting what is totally idiotic in the first place.

   Writing great and unique content is first way to get more followers. Also you may participate in various forums and discussions. There are several benefits of getting more followers, like it will increase the readership, and every comment you get will increase the content of the hub, and helps create another backlink and thus more money.

   I like that each follower is there to encourage and help those they follow.  That's Key to growing and learning and becoming the skilled writer you hope to become.  There is the potential to increase the number of hits you get on your Hubs, but what happens is that you learn how to better promote your Hubs from those more experienced than you.  Thus, your numbers go up simply because your own skill set has been increased.
