What insurance companies sell the basic state minimum insurance if you request it?
Every car insurance company I communicate with tells me that they can't just sell the state limit of liability/pip. However, if the law says that that is all anyone needs to have, then why can't I find a company that will sell me just that if I request it?
I would try Safe Auto. They advertise extensively online as selling the state minimum required coverage. You can buy it at their website.
It may be that some companies refuse to sell the minimum required limits because they do not believe it to be adequate. For example, the minimum required coverage in some states is $10,000 per person, $20,000 per accident Bodily Injury Liability and $10,000 Property Damage Liability. That amount of coverage is inadequate. How many new cars can you buy for $10,000? If you rear end a Mercedes and seriously injure the driver, and have only minimum liability limits, you are going to be responsible for some serious money.
I understand what you are saying about coverage, but if you have an older car, you don't want to waste money over-insuring it. If you can afford a Mercedes, you ought to be expecting to pay higher insurance to cover & protect your investment.
The liability coverage (BI,PD,UM,PIP or MP) is the same for a new Mercedes or an old Chevy for identical limits. The physical damage (Comp and Coll) is of course going to be more. Comp & Coll is not required unless you have a loan on the car.
