Happy 100th!

Updated on August 28, 2014
PDXKaraokeGuy profile image

Justin W. Price, AKA PDXKaraokeGuy, is a freelance writer, blogger, and award-nominated author based out of Juneau, Alaska.

This my one hundredth hub! I've been thinking long and hard about what to write in this hub and have finally decided that the best way to discuss this important milestone is to share my hubstory along with some of my best (and worst) hubs. Let's treat this as a Greatest Hits collection.

My First HUBS

I couldn't tell you how I discovered HUBPages, but, I've always spent years online making extra money and I've always loved writing. I published on for awhile, but, they demanded almost total control over my column, and that didn't interest me. The amount of money they were paying me didn't justify the number of edits the required for my pieces. When I did discover HUBpages, I didn't understand how HUBs worked and I actually erased my first HUB to write my second one, thinking this was more of a traditional blog site then a domain with a series of pages. The first HUB I published and did not erase was this one:

but it's not a very good hub, and I still didn't quite know how to design or market hubs. Six days later I published my third hub:

Me, back in 2007. I love that shirt
Me, back in 2007. I love that shirt | Source

and began to gain some traction. For now, we'll skip over my second HUB, but, I'll add it in the links section later. Hub number three gained me my first comments, my first follow, Guady Serrano, and my first fan mail. I still didn't quite understand hub pages, but I continued to plod along writing and publishing some good and some not so good hubs on everything from music, theology, poetry and literature. it was exciting to begin to gain some feedback and followers and, while I wasn't making any real money, I was still getting published and gaining experience writing. That was the important thing. The money was secondary, and I knew it would come eventually.

My first question

Thanks for writing me and consider my question. I love all kind of memorials and yours to your grandfather is particular special to me. I am from Mexico and now I am in Winnipeg, so I am far from family and my grandmothers who dont do internet at all.

I think it will be great for your and your family to publish his rush, first enjoy discovering them and when you have time, share them with me and all hubers

Have a nice week"

-- Guady Serrano

It's very satisfying to me to have my work be read and commented on by people whom I didn't previously know, but, it's been nice to get to know so many good readers and writers on this site. I'm not going to list any of them because I feel that all 210 (as of 11/16/2011) are equally important and I don't really wanna spend the next three hours doing that and it's been a joy reading your comments, encouragement and feedback on my hubs. Equally, it's been a joy reading and commenting on yours and developing friendships with you and even cross linking some hubs and participating in challenges. Thank you all for your continued support and for leaving quality comments and writing quality HUBS. You make it a joy to check my e mail every day. Just know, I will always return comments, but it may take me awhile.

It's Never Done

One thing I've learned is that, just because a piece is published, it doesn't mean it's done. I'm always editing and revising my pieces because, as a writer, I'm a bit of a perfectionist. I read my poems and my essays and my short stories and I always find ways to improve them. This is one reason I'm constantly re posting old hubs. I don't do it only to be annoying (though that is certainly a factor). I change my hubs often based on feedback I receive and I value you all as a part of my creative process.

Lately, I've been adding more media to my HUBS as well to make them more interesting to look at. This is a technique I've learned while reading other very good HUBS by a plethora of writers. I choose my pictures, videos and products carefully and I really like the life they add to some of my hubs.

My main objective, writing wise, is now poetry. I've been writing poetry since I learned how to read and spell but I've learned a lot, in the last six months especially, about writing poetry and becoming a better wordsmith. Of all the stuff I've written, I'm proudest of my poetry. I'd love to publish a book on poetry soon, which may result in many of my poetry hubs being taken down or changed for publication. As I said in my Hub to my Followers and Fellow Hubbers, I will be offering a ten percent discount on any published poetry book to my HUB followers. For now, enjoy the drafts I have posted and check back often, as the likelihood of them being revised is very high.

Going Forward

So, what you expect from my next 100 hubs?

Well, expect tons more poetry, expect more music and movie reviews. I've recently gotten into these and they are fun and quick way to enlighten my readers on new things. My ultimate goal is to grow into a more well rounded person and take you with me along the way. Look for more Hubs on theology and possible short biographies on people like CS Lewis and Dietrich Bonhoeffer. Look for me to expand on my Hubs and to write offer more writing tips, to continue commenting and reading your hubs and to continue to share my thoughts on everything from God to blood diamonds to childhood to animals.

You are important to me, so I strive to write hubs that will challenge and entertain you. From the bottom of my heart, thank you making these 100 hubs possible and thanks for your continued support.

You are a talented writer and a great looking couple! Keep it up and you'll be knocking the publishers away with a baseball bat. Voted up and Shared.

...oh dear so much to say here ..... yes you do have a hot wife - wow, lucky you!!! and yes any man who wears a Ramones t-shirt is a real buddy of mine - lol - one of my Favorite bands - saw them live back in the day - so sad that two of them are now deceased - two quick stories about the Ramones - Paul Ramones is the name that Paul McCartney would sign his name into the hotels during his days with the Beatles and where the Ramones got their name - and Bruce Springsteen of all people write Hungry Heart for the Ramones (although they never recorded it for some reason)

....congratulations on 100 really great hubs - haven't read them all but what I have - always rock my world big time because you are special, you are different and your writing talent and creative mind is totally awesome dude.

Will post this celebration to my Facebook page with a direct link back here to spread the word.

I'm glad you find my comments helpful and I'm thankful that you continue to read and comment on my work. I enjoy your stuff immensely and it's a joy to share with you. You are one of my favorite authors. I don't write poetry, but I studied it in college. I know good stuff. Your prose is tolerable, too. I have bookmarked this page. I plan to read every one. I have never even tried to make money online, and I will take your advice to heart.

You have left some great comments on my work. One stands out, since it was the most helpful. I call myself a "freelance" artist and writer, that was just the name of the piece. So, we are on the same page. I will re-publish that one under humor and satire, since that is really where it belongs. I'm green, thanks for putting up with me.
