How to Stay Motivated To Write Hubs on HubPages

Updated on January 4, 2013

Let's Write, Right now!

Ah, motivation.

While it can be strong some days, motivation likely is not at a high level every day. Writing for HubPages (HP) is no exception.

You may have written five hubs last week, but this week you can't seem to get yourself writing again. Here are ways to stay motivated to keep publishing at the website.

The Puzzle: Motivation

Let's put the pieces together!

Do You Find It Difficult To Stay Motivated At HubPages?

See results

Organize a Schedule

A great way to stay motivated is to set goals for you for writing at HubPages.

Decide how many hubs you want to publish in a typical week. Be realistic, given your other obligations such as family, another job, and household tasks. Get out a calendar, whether electronic or paper form, and enter the task to write a hub into specific days.

By writing or typing the "write a hub" task into your calendar, you are making a commitment to that task. You are more likely to keep yourself accountable to publishing a hub that day. If you also create a "To Do" list each day, consult your calendar when you compose the list so that you add your writing task to it.

Treat the writing goal for the day like an appointment. Just as you would not cancel a doctor's appointment, you will also not opt out of writing a hub on a particular day.

Get To the Finish Line

Reward yourself when you meet your goal.

Reward Yourself

Another great way to stay motivated is to give yourself rewards when you meet your weekly hubbing goals.

If you plan on your calendar to publish twice a week, and you complete the goal, reward yourself. Have the reward planned out prior to the week so that you have something to work towards as you write.

Rewards do not have to cost a lot of money, or any money at all. Here are examples:

  • Plan to watch one of your favorite movies at home with your partner
  • Buy that chocolate bar that you have been craving
  • Go shopping for those curtains you have been meaning to buy for the bedroom

When you associate meeting the goal with a desired reward, you will be motivated to write!

HubPages is a great way to pen your thoughts and meet supportive people!

Interact With Hubbers

Another way to stay motivated at HP is to interact with fellow hubbers. While you alone ultimately press the publish button, the community at the website is very supportive and helpful in your writing journey.

Read hubs of other writers and you may find that an idea sparks your interest and you are off to write about a related topic. Perhaps the hubber has not answered a question you thought needed to be addressed. Answer the question in a new hub.

Participate in the Q&A and Forum Sections of the website as well. You may find that your motivation increases as you begin to type about the world around you in these online sections.

Read Success Stories

Talk about a big motivator! Read the success stories here at HubPages; a few good ones are listed at the side.

As well, you can simply search this website by "success stories" and find pages of hubs full of inspirational stories. You may just finish the read raring to write your next hub!

Another method is to look back at your own successes at HubPages. Take time to reflect on your own writing journey. Look at your HP profile. How many accolades have you accumulated and what do they represent? Have you commented on a certain number of hubs or reached a certain number of page views?

Be proud of your accomplishments, without comparing them to successes of other hubbers. You are on your own journey and likely have different goals and time frames. You can motivate your way to your next hub by looking at what you have achieved so far at the website and looking ahead to your writing goals! Let's get you one hub closer to that goal!

Your Health

Staying healthy is very important for a writer, whether you are a full-time freelance writer or write in your spare time. When you keep your mind and body at optimal levels, you are likely able to produce higher quality hubs than when you are run-down emotionally and physically.

Take breaks from your writing to clear your mind and stretch your body from its stagnant position in from of the computer. Try to maintain a healthy diet and lifestyle. Remember that if you stop writing at HubPages because you are sick, your daily earnings will rapidly decline. Keep yourself healthy!

Motivation in a Note

Absolutely!
Absolutely! | Source

Stay Motivated

Staying motivated to write hubs is not easy and you will likely face obstacles, both within and outside of your workspace. You may need to experiment with the above methods to see which ones work best for you. Perhaps a combination are useful, or only one fits your needs. The particular method depends on the writer, and that writer is you! Now let's get you writing another hub, and I'll be over soon to take a read!

Thelma, Yes rewards are a great way to keep us content and reaching towards our next goal. Hope you are well!

      B. Leekley, Quite right that sharing hubs to get the writer comments and compliments is encouragement. Thanks for stopping by!

      Up, Useful, and Interesting.

I'd add to also be alert to opportunities to give deserved praise. When an excellent hub at first goes unnoticed and then gets one or two or three or more favorable comments and gets shared, that can perk up a discouraged hubber.

The biggest motivator is that the self-publishing platform, with its features, benefits, and potential benefits, is its own intrinsic reward.

This is a great reminder for me to be motivated. I have never tried rewarding myself after publishing a hub. For me, the great comments of my readers are reward enough to be motivated, but I´ll surely reward myself next time with something I love like walking at the beach. Happy weekend;-)

@moonlake, thank-you. Motivation is something that needs to get topped up regularly :) Find a method that works for you and you'll be off typing away! Keep reading hubs and hope you get a lot of 'aha' moments along the way.

@samsons1, Thanks for your positive comments! The feedback inspires me to keep going, what a great cycle of support!

@Cathleena, Yes the heat can take a lot out us and make us feel lethargic. Taking a break is not something to feel bad about; take care of yourself hon. When you do feel inspired, you will know you are ready to be back in the HP game :) Thanks for the vote and share.

@Teaches, I'm glad you make time for the hubs as you have acquired quite an audience to your work :) Make sure you take time for yourself as well my friend.

It is sometimes hard to get with it and write hubs. I find the hubs I just think of while sitting here commenting on other hubs seem to be the best ones than the ones I plan on. I have to start out slowly maybe once a week getting a hub on. Great hub voted up and more.

WOW!!! You are inspiring! What an uplifting hub, sorta makes me want to shut everything else out for a while and write-- you have some fantastic ideas here, and did I say thanks for the encouragement. Voted up, useful, beautiful and shared with friends...

What a wonderful motivational hub. I needed to see this as I have had to take a bit of a break from Hubpages (about a week) due to feeling so exhausted lately and just not my normal self. I'm hoping to snap out of this soon. Temps have been very hot here (above 100) all week long, and I'm wondering if it could be contributing. Anyway, I need to take your suggestions to heart and jump right back in again. You have managed to write another awesome hub. Voting up and sharing!

What a fabulous, motivating hub!! I was thinking that I had all sorts of ideas, but I wasn't sure if I'd get a hub done today. I'm trying to complete 24 this month. I've done three so far...perhaps a 4th between tonight and tomorrow. Thanks for the motivation. I'm glad I stopped by!

@Trinity, Life does get so busy but please remember the section of the hub about staying healthy. Take time to care for yourself too. Write when you are inspired and the words will flow. Thanks for taking time to comment and vote, I do appreciate it.

@Audra, Awe! I'm pleased I could help brighten your day xx

@Millionaire, LOL go easy there! Glad to share your quality hub and thanks for stopping by :)

@Mellonyy, Organization is key and motivation too. That's partly why I wrote the hub. It's easy to get stressed but remember to set realistic goals. I wrote a hub How to stay healthy as a freelance writer and that may help you further. Thank-you for the read and I am glad you find the hub useful for you.

@thecrazzykylex, I use the reward system and it helps me. Just make sure it's a reward that gets you excited :)

@Jools, Thanks! Let's add some colour to our calendars to make them more fun :)

@Scott, Awe, your feedback helps keep ME going! You are a wonderful support Scott, thanks for the shares and comments.

@Josh, glad to connect with you as well. Your positivity is great and I'm glad the hubs help you with your writing here.

@Jackie, yes I look at my calendar every moment to keep me on track. You go girl! :)

@morningglory24, perhaps you could try writing outside with a laptop or with a pen and paper. Vary the location to help motivate you even more!

@wetnosedogs, I hope the schedule is helpful. Please let me know how it works for you and I look forward to reading more of your hubs.

      @Curiad, Awe shucks :) Thanks!

@ellebyam, Heehee I hope you pick a sweet reward! Thanks for the comment and smile too.

Sometimes writing for pennies does take the backseat to writing for hundreds of dollars, though - it's just too bad that there's only 24 hours in one day!
