Hubbers Who Have Been My Support System: Installment Thirteen
Lucky thirteen! The drum beat of love continues as I take you into the list of my followers and give you a brief glimpse of some very special people.
I started six months ago next week and in truth it seems like six years. So much has been packed into this half-year, so much learning, so many mistakes and yes, so much friendship. To some, when they read the words that follow, it will all appear to be one flowing b.s. session, but if that is your reaction you simply do not know me. I don’t b.s. I don’t blow smoke and I don’t try to woo with my words. What I do try to do is reach people at the most basic of levels. I try to share my emotions and make contact as a human being. I try to find similarities upon which a friendship can be built.
Some say you can’t form friendships online. I think that is ridiculous! I have been emotionally shaken by the outpouring of love that I have received. I have been humbled by the experiences shared with me in private conversations and because of these online friendships I am a better person.
If those things have not happened to you yet then I suggest you try harder. This is a community of writers, but beneath that description it is a community of human beings, each with a story, each with wisdom and each with a desire to form a connection through our common medium. I will forever be grateful to my love, Bev, for encouraging me to take the first step and join HubPages. After that I will forever be a loyal follower of Tammy, Susan, Linda, Paula and countless others who took the time to embrace me to this group AND encouraged me to keep writing.
I do not write on HubPages to get rich! That simply is not going to happen. I rarely write “evergreen” hubs that appeal to the mass audience. No, I write on HubPages because I have found a group of people who feed my soul with the beauty of their words. Their passion feeds my passion and hopefully they would say the same about me.
Today I pass it forward. All of the love that I received early on I try to send back out now. That is as it should be. Those who simply use HubPages as a scorecard do not interest me. I like to hang with the real people and those who follow are as real as it gets.
Thanks to you all and I’m sending blessings, peace and yes, love, to all of you.
HOLLY FROM THE LONESTAR STATE
Every once in awhile someone comes into our lives who is so genuine, so caring and so compassionate that we instantly feel better about life because of their words. Holly is such a person. I am honored to know her and my only regret is in not being able to sit down with her and enjoy her in person.
Her message is real and it comes from a lifetime of picking herself back up after being knocked to the ground. Please read http://hcporter.hubpages.com/hub/Before-a-tear-hits-the-ground and then click on her “follow” button. There is a very good reason why Holly has so many followers and that reason is because she is one of us. There is no pretense in this woman, no phoniness and she plays no games. She is just the epitome of what it means to be a loving human being.
DAUGHTER OF MAAT
She says I have helped her. That may be so but I can say without hesitation that she has given back to me much more. She says she does not express her feelings that well, but I have found great feeling in her comments to me. She says she can’t write poetry but I find her prose to be very poetic.
She recently passed a personal milestone with her 50th Hub; this is one of my personal favorites . It will give you a good glimpse of the person behind the writing. She is worth following, not because she will faithfully follow you, which she will, but because she is one of the good people on this site.
A GYPSY ROSE
Gypsy Rose Lee is her name on HubPages and this is one interesting Hubber. She is a New York native who now lives in Latvia! If that isn’t interesting enough for you then check out her Hubs; she has eclectic tastes so she is all over the place with her topics, but every time I read one I learn something more.
However, my favorite Hub of hers is http://gypsy-rose-lee.hubpages.com/hub/When-Youre-Young because in it she speaks my language. She has a wonderful sense of humor, she is as loyal as you could hope for, and she is just a very nice human being. Stop what you are doing right now and go visit my friend in Latvia!
A FLOW OF LAVA
Okay, that was corny, but work with me here. Her HubPages name is Jlava73….get it? Lava? Sigh!
It should come as no surprise to any of you who follow me that I wear my emotions on my sleeve for all to see. Risky perhaps but I don’t have time to screw around and wear a mask. This lady does the same. Sadly she has not written that many hubs but many of them speak about her trials in life and about constantly moving forward. Read and then read her two-part Hub about never being alone and you will see what I mean. I consider her a friend; I consider her a good person who simply won’t give up. That, my friends, is quality of character!
BEAUTIFUL SNOWDROPS
The first time I saw her Hub name pop up I loved the name and knew I had to read her work. She has never disappointed me. Never! I suspect she is young although I could not give a solid reason for that suspicion. Her profile tells us little about her but her writing speaks volumes. You could pick any of her works to read and be impressed but this one is my favorite ...sorry Hubber; she is no longer a member as of 10/29/2012.
She is relatively new to HubPages and deserves a huge following. Her writing is everything I believe a writer should attempt to achieve. At times painful to read, at other times celebratory of life, this young woman is one talented writer and I am proud to be her follower.
SADDLE UP COWBOY
It is hard to imagine that any Hub member would not know this next gentleman. I am guilty of letting him slip through the cracks in this series of Hubs. It certainly was not intentional because I consider Wayne to be one of the superb writers on this site.
Wayne writes to the common man (and woman of course). He has the ability to reach inside of my mind and pull out images and memories and make them real again. With an economy of language he releases the floodgates of the human experience and that, folks, is talent.
SWEET PAMELA
Look up the word “loyalty” in the dictionary and you will see a picture of this next Hubber. Not really but hey, it sounds good! Her name is Pamela99 on HubPages and she is as regular as clockwork. I write a Hub and she is there to comment. Now, would you like to know the truly remarkable thing about that? She has been on this site for over two years and has something like 1.7 thousand followers. It’s not like she isn’t established in this community. She has no reason to follow me so faithfully and yet she does.
Read http://pamela99.hubpages.com/hub/Brain-Food-Discovered-in-Medical-Studies and you will get a flavor for her writing style. Her style is easy to read, to the point and a perfect match for those of us who need to keep it simple.
I don’t know why she has chosen to follow me considering her standing in this community but I am very grateful.
SOUTHERN BELLE
I like Crystal Tatum! I like her smile, her warm personality and the core of who she is. You can find her at http://crystaltatum.hubpages.com/hub/Trapped-A-Poem in a poem that speaks to every single one of us.
I like the fact that she is inquisitive; I like the fact that she has been writing since she was six. I like the fact that she bares her soul at times and puts herself out there for all to see. Give her a shout out and spread some Hub love to this fine writer. I would appreciate it….she would appreciate it….and you will be happy that you did.
NO MORE TIME FOR TODAY MY FRIENDS
I guess it all depends on what you want out of HubPages! Do you want to concentrate on making money? I say more power to you! Do you want to improve your craft and get feedback? I say more power to you! If, however, what you want is to make a connection with thousands of other writers on a personal and human level, then step forward and make those connections. I was saddened yesterday when a Hubber I was following decided to quit. She hadn’t received a single comment on a Hub she had worked hard on, one that was out of the box for her, an expression of who she was. She put her heart and soul into it and after four hours nobody had commented. I had earmarked the Hub to read later but unfortunately I didn’t get there in time.
I hate to see that happen. We were all busy with our own lives and this one Hubber, who just needed to hear words of encouragement, felt abandoned. Yes, there are those who will say that she needed to toughen up, that a writer has to be strong and endure those times. I agree with that to a certain extent. I also know that if it hadn’t been for a select few Hubbers who reached out to me my first month, I might have quit. We all need support; writing can be an extremely lonely profession.
That is why I am so grateful to my followers and that is why I will continue to write this series of gratitude. Hubs like this one have no chance of earning me income, but they do have a chance of expressing how deeply grateful I am for those of you who reach out to me daily.
Thank you all!
