Hubpages: How to Succeed

Updated on September 12, 2015

What is Hubpages?

Hubpages is more than just a writing site. It is a social network for writers, where you can make friends with others just like you.

You will never feel alone on Hubpages

It is a great place to write and hone your craft as you can find help from other members of the community and the site every step of the way.

First Steps

Advice for new Hubbers

If you are new to Hubpages than the first thing you should do is take a good look around.

  • Read some articles
  • Comment on them
  • Chose your favorite writers and follow them
  • Go to the Forum and introduce yourself. There are lots of great tips in the Forum for newbies so take a good look around.

What to do next

The next step is to start writing.

When you first start out you should write about subjects you know allot and are passionate about. Doing this will mean that you produce an informative article full or relevant and correct information.

Write something relevant

As I write this the World Cup is about to start in Brazil and so it is the perfect time to write about football and the World Cup. The problem with this is that it only happens once every four years and so an article on the subject may do well now but will probably not get many views outside of a World Cup year. This is true of a lot of subjects including my own travel articles which get more views in the months coming up to summer than in the winter.

If you want to write an article that will get a constant stream of views then you need to do some research. For me I found that articles about the MMORPG RuneScape do pretty well all year round as do science and health related ones. Be aware that you need decent knowledge of the last two subjects if you wish to tackle them.

If you do like the idea of writing about an event then your timing is everything. I like to give myself at least a week so I can alter the article if needed. You can get away with writing match reviews but you need to get them finished and up ASAP so they get the views.

Getting your Articles Read

Once your article is up you will start to get a few views from hubpages and possibly some of the search engines, but you need to advertise your work as well.

If you have followed any Hubbers then hopefully they have returned the favor and will visit your Hubs when they are informed of them.

How to Advertise your Article

  • Sign up to social media sites
  • Create your own free website

These are the best free ways to get your article read.

Posting links to your article for your friends and followers on Facebook and Twitter is well worth it but don't flood your timeline with article links as this could loose you followers. Time your posts to get the most views.

Say for example you wrote an article on Christmas Traditions. People will not really want to read that in the middle of summer so don't post links for it at that time. Post them in December and you will get your view count moving.

Creating your own website on a free host is a great way to get yourself known and your articles out to a wider audience. It is a good idea to focus on one subject on a website as this will help you gain views easier.

You could pay to have your article advertised but I recommend against this as you could end up paying out more than you earn.

Earning on Hubpages

You need an Adsense account to start earning on Hubpages. If you already have one then get it set up if not you will need to get writing as they will not accept you unless you have around 10 decent articles for them to monetize.

For help with Adsense on Hubpages just use the search bar at the top of the home page and search for Adsense. There are lots of great articles that will help you.
