TRYING TO IMPROVE MY HUB MANNERS

Updated on June 25, 2010

PAST EXAMPLES OF MY BAD HUB MANNERS

Throughout my almost 64 years of life I’ve always liked an argument. I never held a grudge about these arguments, but I’ve given it some thought about the location of some of my hub arguments, and I’ve concluded I’ve been inappropriate in my choice of location for my arguments. Due to this conclusion I’ve decided to apologize to the hubbers I may have offended by using their hubs as the locations of my arguments.

I consider each hubber’s hub as their virtual home, and having an argument with others in someone's home is bad manners the way I was brought up. With this being said I apologize to hubbers cjv123 and Whidbeywriter. These are the most recent examples where I displayed bad manners by arguing with others on their hubs. I invaded their virtual homes with my massive ego and I truly apologize for doing so. There may be other times I’ve offended a hubber by my poor manners and I also apologize for being a poor excuse as a gentleman and I’ll try to atone.

MY PLEDGE FOR THE FUTURE

I’ll keep my comments on the topic of the hub I’m reading and ignore the personal attack of others on your hub. If I want to argue I’ll do so on my own hub and not take advantage of your hospitality. I really appreciate the work you’ve done in writing your hub and I won’t intrude into your virtual home again. If I don’t keep this pledge feel free to delete my comment.

I was raised by my mother to always be polite when visiting somebody’s home and I intend to make my dear late mother proud of her last born son and with all your help I know this can be accomplished. Thank you in advance for all your help. I love all of you!!!!!!

Tom - Don't wuss out. I disagree that someone's Hub is their home. They are putting things out in PUBLIC, so they are fair game for you if they write something that YOU think is stupid or incorrect. Too many people don't want to make waves. If you look around, you will see that a lot more waves are needed.

You may have seen some of my answers in the Q&A section. I regard stupidity and cluelessness there as fair game, also.

And, I also give kudos to such as you for some of your other Hubs.

      A new fan, dabeaner.

Tom, you are a man of character. It is hard not to argue at times at some of the nonsense people write. (Do not have anything in particular in mind at the moment.) Keep on doing what you do best. You are welcome any time on my hubs! Blessings.

      jib,

Thank you for your supportive comment.

I just don't want to butt into other's hubs anymore. I'll state my case anywhere, and argue on my hubs.

What I like about your plan is that you'll have your say in your own hub and we'll all get to read it. That said, it seems to me hubpages encourages the sort of back and forth you were doing - thumbs up and so on in the accolades.

      eovery,

I will argue in my own hubs and I will express my opinion with the hubber who writes a hub, but I won't argue anymore with another commenter in someone else's hub. It's like argueing with another guest in someone else's home.

TOM! Apology not accepted as I never needed one in the first place!!! Listen, you are INVITED to my Hub. I welcome you there. If you have gotten in a tiff or two - I haven't seen anything out of line. If you want to follow some new self-imposed set of rules - that's fine with me. But you have NOTHING to apologize to me about. I'm a straight "shooter" Tom - I would have written to you and told you if I thought you crossed a line. I LIKE it when there are arguments - just like what nicomp said - as long as it remains without vulgarities or cursing - have at it! It makes the topic more interesting! You silly guy!!!! And I too have lost my temper and have had to apologize when I've lost my temper. It has happened - and my own Hubs are proof of it. You're being WAY too hard on yourself. But I do appreciate your concern. Not to worry though!

Thank you Tom, this was very well written and your mother would be very proud of you. Sometimes others can push our buttons as was seen in my hub - but you are a gentleman in my book for coming out and apologizing. Blessings.

      SusanP,

Thank you for your vote of approval and compliment.

If I disagree with the hubber who wrote the hub I feel free to express my opinion freely, but when another commenter in their hub calls me names I should use discretion in the writer of the hub's virtual home with other commenters.

Tom, you are a gentleman and a scholar! (and a darned nice guy!)

You came from good, solid, sensible lineage. I knew your entire family and they were part of "the good people" of Moundsville.

I agree with you regarding visiting others' hubs and 'behaving' nicely, as you would in their homes. But if one disagrees with the hubbers point of view, shouldn't one express his disagreement? If everyone just goes along agreeing when they don't really feel agreement, shouldn't one express it??

Good boy Tom, make your late Mom proud of you. Tom, some 60 years ago, at age 18, my first job was on the Monongahela Railroad as a ganddy dance, in your home town of Moundsville, West Virginia.

      Tom,

My wife and I write reviews on an online magazine and the comments often go off on wild tangents that are not relevant to the topic. Some of the commentors have even admitted that they never read the original article -- they got involved for the argument. It's a mess. One thread even contained several comments about who "owned" the thread. The more vocal commentors demanded that the author of the original article did NOT own the thread and they could comment any way they wanted. Very bad form.

Thanks for a refreshing take on an issue that deserves attention.
