Should you use your referral tracker for linking to your own hubs?
I use the tracker for posting links to other people's hubs and for link to the sign up page. I don't use it for links to my own hubs, but I was wondering if it would be good to insert the tracker into links to my own hubs.
Hi NateB, thanks for asking this question, I have wondered about it myself for a while.
My reasoning is that it doesn't make any difference if you use the tracker for your own hubs. It seems to me that the point of referrals is to give you an incentive for generating traffic for other hubbers or HubPages in general, which you would not normally earn anything from.
If you generate traffic to your own hubs, by putting links in various places that people will click on, you benefit from that traffic. If you got paid by using the referrer tracker, you would earn twice so to speak (well the referrer earnings would only be 10% but still). I don't see why HubPages would pay you to do something that is good for you anyway, the point of the referral program is to encourage you to do something extra.
So I don't think promoting your own hubs with a referral token would actually earn you any more money. I don't think it would hurt either. These are just my own thoughts, does anybody know anything for certain?
On a related topic, I wonder if there is a way to automatically add a hubber's referral token to the link when they 'like' another hubber's article on facebook. I think it might be technically impossible, I heard that FB strips the token. I've just decided that if I want to share somebody else's hub on FB, I should just post a link with my tracker rather than pressing the 'like' button, so I can get the 10% of any traffic it generates. 10% of a bit of traffic might sound like too little to care about, but every little helps.......
If you are promoting your own hubs, using a referral tracker will capture any signups and therefore you will benefit from any hubs they publish; benefit financially if they start earning money.
Hi aa lite. I replied to your comment, made a typo, then deleted it, but couldn't reply again (oops!). So, anyway, here's my reply: I was thinking this too; that someone coming to see my Hub would possibly sign up or visit other Hubbers Hubs. That makes sense. Thank you for helping me clarify.

What can you do with the referral tracker, and how do you do it?

Do you still put a tracker link in your hubs?In all of my hubs I have a link in a blue box with a referral tracker with a heading offering to sign up with Hubpages to write articles. Is this still a good idea for new hubs since all the changes?

I've read the FAQ, darkside's hubs, and several forum threads and didn't see an answer to this.If somebody lands on one of my hubs via a Google search, for example, and thinks "WTF is this cr*p? I could do better!" or (hopefully!) "Wow, this is so awesome - I want to join this site...
