    Why do hubs waste so much of the visible area on the screen?

    I figure maybe they're trying to make it look like a newspaper column but on a widescreen format it looks like you're reading a squashed piece of text and it makes rather concise paragraphs look so wordy.

    This is only a guess, but I can think of two reasons. The first is there are some people who still have smaller monitor screens and wouldn't be able to see everything if the actual text area was wider. The other reason is it's a lot easier, at for some of us, to read when your eyes don't have to travel across the full width of the larger screens. Every time I visit a website that has the text stretched clear across the larger size screen, I don't even bother reading the page because I get lost trying to go from one line to the next.
