Do you think it would be a waste of time to post poems on Reddit? I posted articles and have received boosts in traffic. From what I've seen, it doesn't look like a site where readers are into poetry. Advice please from those who use Reddit?
The people on Reddit are very meanspirited, and judging from some of the responses other hubbers got there, very young as well. I really don't think they would appreciate poetry. I am an Astrologer, and got laughed off and taunted, even sworn at. They even wanted my credentials! You can join the American Astrological Association for a few dollars a year, but it doesn't make you a better Astrologer. They like videos, current events. I did write about a few books there, but most find it doesn't really help their traffic.
Thanks, Jean. I asked this question because I got an uncomfortable feel from the site. I did notice that the readers seemed very young. I found it hard to find categories that would fit my postings. I sensed that they probably would find most of my topics boring anyway. So far I posted 3 articles which are getting some views. I will not post poetry.
I didn't even know what Reddit was until you posted this, I guess Ill post something and try it and let you know the results
Reddit is a social community of geeks, cynics, and smart people with an ascerbic and often abrasive wit. Like any social community, you need to participate a while and become a regular member of that community so that you can learn what's popular there.
The site is NOT meant for people to drop links to their own stuff, trying to get traffic. If they think that's what you're trying to do, they may respond with hostility. Do it too much, and the mods could block ANY hubpages.com links from being posted on the site. They have to; too many social sites have become nothing but a place where people drop links and wander off without anyone reading anyone else's posts or having any kind of discussion.
I wouldn't think Reddit would be a good community to get involved in for posting poetry, as it doesn't seem like their style. But I don't know, as I'm not a regular on the site. See a theme here? Don't post on Reddit unless you've gotten involved in the community as an insider, not as an outsider looking to exploit them.
Wow! I had no idea, was just taking suggestions from successful hubbers about increasing traffic. I didn't realize I needed to be that involved in the community. It's not my intention to exploit anything or any site. I'm a naive newbie who didn't even participate in a social networking community with forums and such until I joined hubpages. Yikes, I think I may cancel my Reddit account :-(
I hope we didn't scare you. I did pretty much the same as you. When I joined HP, they harped on how important backlinks were, and I never thought about it from the point of view of the site I was trying to leave backlinks on. So it's not just you. If you want to leave links though, try to become part of their community, post now and then, if you can find a topic you like. Reddit has some books, they had something called 4 sentence book review that I used a few times, and I still get traffic to those book reviews. I don't recall if they have a poetry section. You can google them and look up Reddit + topics, and get a list. Or else maybe just look for poetry sites, that way you will "meet" people with your same interests and talents, and will appreciate each other. Things have changed so much that some sites are really slick, and there isn't even room to leave a backlink, the sites exist only to sell stuff. But with poetry, I would think there would be other poets out there on sites. Good luck, and don't give up. Reddit seems like a young audience who likes the shock value of what they post. But they are strict, and even if you are posting NOT to get backlinks, you may get a message you can't post for another half hour or something similiar.
I've posted on hubs on reddit and it didn't seem to increase any traffic for me. At least I don't think it did because when I look at the traffic sources reddit was never in the list. So I assumed no traffic came from it. But perhaps not all the sites are shown under the Traffic Sources...
To get traffic on Reddit, you need for people to up-vote your article in a good sub-forum so that people will constantly be seeing it. I'm not sure if there's a poetry sub-reddit (there probably is, though), but you could probably try checking that out to see if your stuff can fit in. If you go onto the right sub-reddits, you'll probably find a place to post (but take into account that most of the people on Reddit are in their 20s or so).
I love Reddit AND I love HP, but I'd have to say the two don't really mix.
It's not really a promo site (not that any social network is) as much as it's a "check out this thing that I thought was cool." And by "cool" it's a niche: programming, engineering, science, funny cat pictures, general geekery.
There have been hubbers in the past who have spammed the crap outta' Reddit so they'll be quick to call you a spammer no matter how relevant your post is to Redditors' interests.
There might be a poetry subreddit, but I want to stress that it's a bad idea to post self-serving links there.

In reviewing my traffic sources recently, I noticed that I was getting traffic from a site called traffup.com, which I had never heard of before. I went to the site and signed up for it to see what it was all about, and found that someone had posted a link there to one of my hubs. I thought...

Hello, my learned colleagues! I am new to this (posted a few hubs last night for the first time). I have been reading forums for several hours today, as well as a few interesting hubs (thank you, Mark Knowles), about blogging and creating links and adsense, and all kinds of intriguing stuff that I...

This site has been suggested as a way to get traffic. I spent a few hours, which turned into 3 days, to figure out how to navigate it. It appears to be a site about links, not really content, but they get angry if you post links? What am I missing? I had to go on under 3 names, but I tried to leave...

How do You Get Traffic From Reddit to Your Hubs? Anyone doing this successfully?

I know we have talked about this before on the forum. I have been posting my YT videos on Reddit and it doesn't seem to do anything for my account. As an update, has anyone had any success with posting on Reddit?
