I joined HubPages since 2009 and was most active in 2010 and 2011. I'm starting to work more on articles once again seeing if I can be successful like I used to be.
One of my hubs that I published yesterday is not featured because it says it does not meet "quality standards." This hub has 700 words, couple polls, pictures, and is separated into a few paragraphs. The style of this hub is very similar to the others I wrote and those got featured recently.
The only thing I can think of is that I mentioned smoking & drinking and somehow maybe this is why it is not featured? I did not advocate it at all. It's just an easter egg thing you can do in a video game.....
Any help is greatly appreciated!
Hard to say without a link. Many people swear by long hubs but mine are rarely over 500 words when first published and normally get featured. I just go for lots of headings and pictures.
Am I allowed to post a link on this particular forum?
You could make a new thread here: http://hubpages.com/forum/category/2885
Seriously? Here they've made such a big deal over the hubs being over 1000 words.
Yes, it's not my experience. I have even had hubs under 300 words pass under the new system. I am sure length helps, but it is not a compulsory part of passing QAP.
Very few of my hubs exceed 1000 even now, and none of them exceeded it when I first published them (I tend to improve them over time).
I am really surprised by that. I've been posting all of my short stuff at Bubblews. by short, I'm including articles that are that long. Maybe I'll try some of them here.
It's not really length, it's helpfulness and non-promotion.
I've seen, suffered through, and wanted to put my eyes out after reading two thousand word hubs that said absolutely nothing that would have been of value to a reader.
Literally, 2000 word rants about people's ex's, their childhood pet's potty habits (I'm not joking) and why social media is really really important. So important that they spend 2000 words rephrasing that it was important.... not telling us how, or why... just restating it's importance. Then, surprisingly, there is a link to their social media business at the bottom.
I've read 400 word hubs on how to clean oil out of linen, unknown history bits or economic definitions that I would have bookmarked, shared and likely pinned if the option was available.
Those 400 word hubs had substance. The 2000 words didn't.
Just to get featured? Back when I wrote a lot of articles (on a different account) the quality assessment was not in effect. I mean I wrote some hubs when it was, but not too many. Never had to deal with this issue.
I'm a bit disappointed because I wrote a hub that is doing quite well and think this one has potential....
Length is definitely a big factor now. The aim is now 1250 words. It takes a little extra time, and possibly some research, but that's what separates Hub Pages from other writing sites: there are standards to help keep the writing high quality. Good luck!
I suppose I could do 1000-1250 word articles, but it might be difficult for some topics because they might not need that many in my opinion (it would just be filler). But I also am trying to get as many hubs out as possible as well because I am excited that I actually have a hub that is doing very well (reminds me of good old days in 2011.)
My other hubs were about 800-1000 words and they got featured, though. I guess it is good that HubPages has a higher standard than it did a few years ago. It seems like rankings are better.
Hi, Kain--
I know what you mean about "just filler." I can spot it a mile away, because I got very good at it in high school, when we'd be assigned a 2K word essay on some topic about which I didn't give a rat's patootie.....
Best wishes...
Are your photos properly attributed? That's a big one. Not all of your hubs have to be super long to be featured. I have several shorter ones that are featured, but they make up for it with excellent, properly attributed photos, tables, polls etc.
Also, double check spelling and grammar, sometimes we don't see things initially when checking, perhaps you have some errors there?
I don't believe length alone would get you a non-quality feature - unless it is short and not very informative - then it could.
No they were not. But now I have attributed the photos.
Honestly, I don't really consider a 500-600 word article short. Maybe not super long, but definitely not short. The ones I have published lately are above that, though.
My spelling is fine as far as I know. However, when it comes to the types of hubs I published there are some words that are not actual words in real life, but are in the video game or whatever.
I think I just saw a new thing with the notifications... did the one I had not yet clicked on light up?
I have never had an issue with quality standards. I did have a hub non-featured for quality, and I changed one or two little things, and it was featured again. I don't know if someone flagged it, or what. It wasn't a new hub at all. My hubs tend to be rather long, but I have a few that are rather short, but they are all doing well.
As far as Hubber scores, I have no clue what is going on with all that. I have seen Hubbers who consistently have high hubber scores, with lower than normal numbers next to their pictures. I can't give reasons, considering I don't know what they are, or aren't doing. I can say that mine has stayed rather consistent, no matter what I do. It fluctuates a little here and there, but never more than a few points either way.
That one is one of the biggest mysteries here on HP. They are not divulging the formula behind hubber scores, presumably to keep folks from "gaming the system." All they will say is that "It isn't that big a deal, and to just concentrate on writing well." Methinks they protest too much, and there is more to it than that..but..what??? Who knows?
I got my score up pretty high, but how, I know not. I do think that frequent writing helps, because I have noticed that when I took a hiatus, and stopped writing for a while..the score was stable for quite some time, but now, it is starting to fall...and has dropped 4 points...
I guess I have to get busy again...but I got a bit discouraged and wary on account of all the scraping that was going on...
I had an issue a while ago with a hub that mentioned alcohol, so that may be the reason. Did you cite the source of the images? Link to the source? That's the only other thing I can think of without seeing the hub itself...

LOL more like the court jester than the Queen...this link takes you to a HubPages article on how to improve your Hubber Score. You probably need to publish more high quality hubs. Part of the score is your average of quality across all your Hubs. I am not an expert, so I defer to the good folks at HubPages: http://hubpages.com/learningcenter/hubs … bber-score
I'll have everyone know that that hub did get featured yesterday.
I edited the title, gave photo credit, and edited a few minor things.

Yep
I'm not sure what it was, but it may have been the fact that I did use the Acronym in the title rather than the full title.
Hopefully you can get your hubs out of trouble!

Yes, or you can ask for the picture source to be added to the list of accepted sources if it is a common one like wikipedia or foter

Is the hub just unpublished, or is it marked as "irrevocable". If it is just unpublished you can fix it and submit it back for publication.

Too bad. You can transfer some stuff over to start a new hub so long as you make sure not to repeat the same mistakes.
Kain, from what you have described, I can't think of any reason why it wouldn't be featured. I suggest that you make a few changes and resubmit it. "Easter," by the way is capitalized. Blessings!
I would think that "smoking & drinking" is what caused it to be unfeatured...

I have encountered a very poorly written hub, the spelling and grammar was bad and the sentences were incomprehensible. The hub has less than 300 words in total including the title (268 words exactly) and has more than 15 none-English words. I had to check the hubber profile; the hubber has 12...

Lately, I have had 11 hubs unfeatured due to Quality Issues. I have assured my hubs do not contain grammatical or spelling errors. I have included relevant video and changed the titles and added new supporting texts and all this to no avail. The HubPages Staff continues to deem my hubs do not...

I just wanted to share the experience I had, in the last 30 minutes. I am at one of my businesses, so I can only look at a few hubs a day. Today, I decided to do my own Hub hopping, without using the official Hub Hopper. One of the Hubbers who happens to have a lot more hubs published than I do, has...

I recently had a hub un-featured for engagement, as the half-circle indicates. I think this is an unfair practice and should be eliminated entirely. Here's why I feel this way:Our hub traffic is often affected by the time of year, holidays, seasons, and current events to name a few. If left alone,...

I am being challenged. I have been having a problem getting a new hub to be featured. It has gone through QAP three times already. It is a new day, and I am feeling up to the challenge once again. Rested and refreshed after a good nights sleep, with a hopeful heart. So! Now, the hub will be going...

For months I published no hubs and my hubber score sat around 96, in the last month I published three hubs, all of which are featured and each time I published one my hubber score dropped by two points, it's now down to 90. Is this how HP rewards us for our hard work? Correct me if I'm wrong but...
