Follow Notifications on Newsfeed page

First, I want to make it perfectly clear that the HubPages follow program is great  and I have absolutely no qualms or criticism about who follows who.  What bothers me a lot is the fact that every time someone follows someone, there is notification that "XXX is now following XXX" on the newsfeed page. Quite often my whole newsfeed is filled with nothing but follow notifications. Is this really necessary? It does not matter to me and is of no concern to me who is following who. Maybe some people like to know this, but I just get irritated when notifications I would like to see are pushed down and off the newsfeed before I get a chance to click on them and read hubs, etc.

I know that I can adjust the page with the 'feed filters', but that is not a permanent feature, for the newsfeed page reverts back to default every time I go back to it.

I have researched the FAQ and find no similar post to follow notifications on newsfeed.  I checked the feed filters and there is no option to permanently not get follow notifications on newsfeed. I checked my profile settings and there is no option to not get follow notifications on newsfeed.

Is it possible to have the option to not have these follow notifications on my newsfeed page? I do appreciate it when I get notification on the newsfeed when someone follows me or I follow them -- but, to get a page with 30 or more follows about others is hindering me from searching for other notifications.

i believe you can deselect that in your notification settings, right?

I just deselected all of my follow options from the feed settings then saved. they didn't revert back to default. i wonder why yours keeps reverting back.

I will try that. I thought I already had edited follower notifications options. I will see what happens now and let you know. Thanks.

edit: Maybe I did not do it right and that is why it defaults back.

The purpose of Follow notification is to increase the interaction. I have no problem with it. But I share your concern.

The purpose of following does increase interaction and that is good. But, how does a "follow notification" that says "X is now following Y" increase interaction? Do you click on both names in that notification and congratulate them or something? I am not trying to be rude here, I just would like to know why you think  a "follow notification" increases interaction. For me it does not.

Perhaps it is to urge more Hubbers to read their profile and follow one of them.

    I agree with you.
Its even more irritating when a person starts following lot of hubbers in one session.

As a Squidoo transfer, I'm finding it a useful feature for finding friends here but I can see how it might be annoying to others.

Yes Phyllis Doyle  there is an option to de-follow notifications on newsfeed page. I request you to go through any of the email, which you got from hubpages, about the notification in which the person you are following has asked a question. In the bottom line, there is an a clickable link that says like that

"You are receiving this email because you are signed up to receive instant notifications when a Hubber who you are following creates a new forum thread. To unsubscribe from these notifications, simply adjust your notification preferences."  In these sentences, "adjust your notification preferences" is clickable. Just click on this and you will land on the page and where you can make adjustments.

I am aware of this -- but, it is not my email notifications I am concerned about. I do not get "who follows who" notifications in my email, only on my newsfeed page.

I have no problems limiting what comes through in my Feed, nor in getting those settings to "stay."

There's no way I'm going to read announcements about followers of followers.

I learned a long time ago that people's interests are basically divided into three categories. Many people like to talk about people, others like to talk about events and some like to talk about ideas.

I think in terms of size the order that I listed these is the way we are grouped largest to smallest.
