I've been trying to add text links inside text capsules, some to other hubs, some to external sites and I can't seem to get them to save properly.
I am using Safari on Mac OS X Mavericks.
I click the link button and it shows the dialog, I then paste in a URL and click Save, but nothing happens.
(also the search option doesn't seem to return results on any of the tabs)
If I click the "x" in the top right hand corner of the dialog, then it appears that the link has worked, but when I click on it, it keeps going to a different page on HubPages (usually my profile).
On one occasion I thought it had saved correctly, but when I saved the Hub and went back in, it said that it had broken links instead.
The hub in question is http://timbader.hubpages.com/hub/Pandem … ion-Review (not published yet), but I have had the same trouble on other hubs and eventually gave up.
What is going wrong?
Thank you for reporting this. I actually took a look at the Hub in question from your profile and successfully inserted the link (where you wrote "If you're not sure what I'm on about, you can read my review of the original game.") using Google Chrome.
Can you paste the link you were using before in your reply? I suspect it might have been the private URL to the above referenced Hub ("review of the original game") rather than the public URL (...hub/pandemic-board-game-review).
Thanks for getting back so quickly.
Yes, that's the correct spot.
I was trying to insert this URL: http://timbader.hubpages.com/hub/pandem … ame-review into the "In the lab" expansion review.
However, I also had trouble in the same hub, trying to link to the ZMan Games website in the capsule "sequence of expansions".
NB: I have published it now, but I still can't get the links to work properly.
What's the difference between the private and the public URL for Hubs?
The private URL would be the one that you would copy from the address field in "edit" mode (e.g. http://hubpages.com/hubtool/edit/3276761). No one would be able to access the link except you.
Have you tried inserting your links using a different browser? Our site works best with Firefox.
Thanks for providing the additional info.
I definitely wasn't using the private URL, but the correct one.
Ok, I have now tried the same thing in Chrome and it worked first time.
Incidentally, when I now go back in to edit the links and click the link button (in Chrome) it opens the form (which it wasn't doing before either) and I can see that the link that it added when in Safari was this:
I can workaround this by using Chrome to update text links, but I would rather not have extra software on my machine just for this.
- Don't get me wrong, I use Chrome at work all the time, on Windows machines.
Will the issues in Safari be fixed?
I tried the same in Safari and was able to successfully add a link and not have it revert. That being said, I suspect this isn't a widespread issue and may have something to do with your machine. Unfortunately, there's not much we can do unless the issue is replicable. I can recommend switching browsers (as you've done), or clearing your cache in Safari and trying the process again. Sorry for the frustration caused by this issue; I wish I could provide more assistance.
Just as confirmation, you're doing the following, correct?:
1. Hitting "edit" on the capsule you're trying to add a link to;
2. Selecting the text you want linked (see screenshot);
3. Clicking the "Insert/Edit Link" button;
4. Entering the link in question (http://timbader.hubpages.com/hub/pandem … ame-review) in the URL field;
5. Hitting "Save".
Ok, I understand.
I'll try and clear the cache, etc to see if that fixes it.

In reviewing my traffic sources recently, I noticed that I was getting traffic from a site called traffup.com, which I had never heard of before. I went to the site and signed up for it to see what it was all about, and found that someone had posted a link there to one of my hubs. I thought...

Today I have had several alerts for broken links in my hubs that turned out to be videos and all were actually working when I tried playing them,

This hub:http://dzymslizzy.hubpages.com/hub/The- … land-CurseHas, for the second time, garnered the "malicious links" warning. I have checked. THERE ARE NO MALICIOUS LINKS IN THAT HUB!! They are all perfectly legitimate links to the original reference sites I...

Well, I hope I am posting this in the right spot. I've been on Hubpages now a little over 3 months, and am enjoying it thoroughly, all the writers here have been great. I have done a lot of research on increasing traffic to my hubs, and mostly people seem to collectively agree that to really boost...

I've seen some hubs with affiliate links on them... such as from Commission Junction. Is there a HubPages policy on using these types of links?

I am having problem with adding a link. In edit, when I copy a link, hit the link button that takes me to another page, I cannot add the link. I paste the link into the area I am supposed to on the other page (as I always have) and then I click "insert" but nothing happens. I've tried...
