A Contest will provide friendly competition that will boost creativity. I am not sure how many people need this creative boost as much as I do but I am pretty sure many of us will appreciate the contest.

Good thoughts, Cardisa. I would love to join a creative writing contest.

We had a writing contest a few years ago and it was great fun. Creative Writing and Poetry were two of the categories, I think Photography was one also. HubPages chose several judges to read every hub in the contest and voted on the best one for each category.  It really brought the community together in a good and fun way.

I hope HP considers doing this again.

      Edit: There were a few judges for each category, so those judges did not have to read every hub, only hubs in the category they were judging.;

What a great idea, Cardisa. I hope the HubPages leaders will consider this. Perhaps we could suggest some catchy title for the contest. smile

Cardisa, I am wondering if this thread was under "Getting Help for HubPages" or "Improving Traffic for HubPages" if we would get more attention and a reply from Kristy - who would be the one to create a contest.  Maybe she will come along here anyway. What do you think?

I am already starting a journal on ideas for creative stories and poems in case Kristy does open a contest for us. big_smile

Phyllis, I don;t want to place this in the wrong category lest I upset some HP members...lol. It should be placed in the Creative Writing category (if there is one).

Oh!  I can understand that, Cardisa.  You started a good thread here and I hope we do get another contest. Thanks for doing this.

I would love it.  The constant "quests" at Squidoo is what I miss most.  They were pretty much the equivalent of contests.

They often provided material fodder and a platform for gaining more views when the top whatever number for that quest was announced.  Further, they were great for hooking up with others interested in that topic.

For HP, such friendly and constructive competition would go a long way towards uniting what is currently still two divided groups of authors into a more cohesive whole.  Lastly, I think such types of "games" help keep us motivated many times, can give us a common goal and a friendly way to learn, produce and interact on a greater level.

It's a great idea! If I were "in charge" I would start it after the grace period so that xSquids would be done editing and not feel left out.

A contest like that would then let them keep the writing momentum going but in fun competition rather than required "work.".

As one of those squids, I don't want to wait.  I can only speak for myself, but most of us are still writing as well as editing.  I would like to see regular, ongoing contests starting immediately.

As you like. I only had 10 transfer and have written a couple more but there are many who have over 100.

How long did the last one go one for anyway?

Usually our contests are for a full month.

I don't know for sure but if I remember right from when I was here before they run for significantly longer than they did on Squidoo.  Right now, I would love a contest with a meaty prompt.  It occurs to me that creating such contests, outside this venue, would be a good business opportunity for anyone looking.  HM.

I would welcome one. I have a question. Will we get notified if they put up any new contests?

I imagine they would send it out in HP weekly.  There's also a link to check for contests I think in the learning center.  Some hubbers have done mini versions of their own which are always fun but it would be great to see HP do more.  Were it up to me, which it isn't, I would like to see a contest for each category every week.  As the Olympic games bring together the world, such contest could bring together all of us.

Christy is very good about making sure new contests are well covered and announced: in the HP Weekly newsletter, in a forum thread, and a box on the right side of the news feed page.
