Was recent traffic drop normal?

I was curious if anyone else saw a decline this past 4th of July weekend and if it's normal. I know summer traffic is lower on average but it seems to have dropped more significantly the past weekend.

I'm only because I'm not sure how these traffic trends work this time of year and if it varies from person to person.

Mine did better than ever, but that is because I write summer and vacation oriented hubs that center around dreams that people have of one day getting away from all of it in an RV.

      In the winter months,views suck!

So this is your prime season then. I know most did well in the spring months with the help of niche sites but I'm curious how that will carry on during the rest of the year particularly heading into autumn.

Me, too.  I suspect my hubs will do well for another month and then start dropping back, but I will say that the numbers are much, much higher than they have ever been.  Compared to certain other people here, mine may not seem like much, but to me they're great.  I've gone from around 500 views per day to more than 2,000 and my ads are off the chart!  CPM is up by about 30% also and keeps rising.

That's a huge increase and I believe it because I've seen similar results myself. June was incredibly good traffic wise, CPM, and of course earnings.

This month is starting off with a bang, too.  I can hardly believe it!

Traffic wobbles around on American holidays. I think whether it goes up, down or sideways depends on a variety of factors, most of which are better explained by nerdy statisticians who analyze internet trends.

However, in it nutshell it seems to me on holidays people are less likely to spend less time reading for entertainment and doing general internet messing around, and are more likely to spend time shopping, gathering information and getting things done. So how far your traffic falls probably does depend on the subjects you write about, and the holiday. But I could be wrong. That's just how it seems to me after 4+ years of doing this.

I have three accounts. Two were around normal or maybe slightly up compared to a normal weekend, and one (the one consisting of Hubs people would mostly read when they are screwing around) was slightly down.

Thank you for analysis. You have a point because certain subjects do well during this time of year while others may dwindle.

I think these summer weekends are different than holiday weekends towards the end of the year because more people are likely to be out and about than look through things online but I could be wrong. I guess I'll have to see what happens.

There has been a 50% drop in my overall traffic including the mother site, over the last month. I suspect a Panda hit. Very Disappointing!

Perhaps it was I'd say my numbers dropped about 30% from where they were in late June. How can we know for sure it was a Panda hit though?

Something 'big' has happened, not sunny summer days.

From what I've seen, traffic does go down during holidays; glad you mentioned it because on one of my accounts traffic went down and I'd forgotten it was the 4th.

It appears that the holidays were the main culprit as my traffic has recovered quite a bit compared to the last couple days. It remains to be seen whether there's something much bigger than the time of year.

Overall a lot of hubbers have made tremendous gains lately so kudos to Hubpages and the staff for making all this happen.
