    Thanks to everybody who commented on Cedar Point! I am trying to decide on a topic for #8 now. I think the last one might have gone a bit too quickly, so looking to do "more."

      Thanks EM!! I know, we're still newbies which I think kind of ups the cynicism factor LOL I hope they will catch on to the joke--don't wanna scare anyone away!! big_smile

    The thing is that cynical or not, it does give people a more realistic idea of what is going on here on Hubpages. And not everybody around here is "nice."

    How much research are you guys doing on your hubs? I'm researching like crazy for this next one. Subject matter might surprise y'all wink

    I think I am managing one close-to-flagship-style hub a day:

    I only fell slightly short with this particular hub, but I'm reasonably happy with it! I was thinking of doing Lizzie Borden next!

    Is anybody else feeling like they flat out *can't* do this? I'm so frustrated right now I want to *scream!*. The keyword research thing is confusing the socks off me and all of the topics I'm actually interested in seem to come in fairly low in terms of search volume, but high in competition (go figure). In short, I'm discovering that I can't figure out how to make money at this, and am beginning to wonder if it's worth it to keep going.

    Seriously, seriously need some encouragement here!

    1. dwilliamson profile image61
      dwilliamsonposted 16 years agoin reply to this

      Hey, EM, I know what you mean about keywords. I'm so frustrated with them too but I've never worried about keywords and I get a google payout about 3 times per year. I like to write about what is on my mind so I'm thinking I just may not worry so much about keywords. I mean, yeah, I'd love to make a ton of money off this challenge but more importantly I just want to write. I would say just write!

    2. profile image0
      Janettaposted 16 years agoin reply to this

      Ok *popping fingers and stretching neck* I'm gonna try to encourage you. I say *try* here because we are on two different paths with the challenge thing so I don't have the same concerns as you, bnut here goes... YOU CAN DO IT!!! I HAVE FAITH THAT YOU WILL PUT OUT 100 EXCELLENT QUALITY HUBS THAT, ALTHOUGH YOU MAY NOT BE SO SURE NOW, WILL NET YOU SOME DECENT MONEY.  I know you can do it, EM. You're going to have a little bit of writer's block or keyword issues, or migraines by the time the thirty days is up. But remember one very important thing-- You have THIRTY days! You don't have to do it ALL today. As long as you write three to four hubs a day, you'll be fine.  And you can always go back and edit. Don't worry about making it fit into a specific keyword at first, write a hub you are pleased with and then see if you can fit in some better keywords.  This challenge is, in all actuality, about making money writing online, but it is also for fun. F U N. Just try not to stress too much and it is ok to take a break now and then big_smile  Whew *wiping brow* hope that helps smile

    Debbie, do you have analytics on Bedtyme Tales? Or any kind of stats program? If so, I would love to know what the keywords are that you're using and getting hits to your site, whether or not it's keying into your stories or into your title or the subject matter (inasmuch as there is one -- Children's stories).

    How long has the site been open?

    1. dwilliamson profile image61
      dwilliamsonposted 16 years agoin reply to this

      Hi EM, yes I do have google analtyics on my site. I just put it back up there when I started hubpages. I had it on there for awhile but changed my site and forgot to add it back in. I am in my analytics page right now.

      easter bunny stories
      bed tyme tales
      easter bunny story
      stories about the environment
      autumn stories
      princess anna
      racum
      lil rebel stories
      hillbilly bob
      cows rule
      pirate pete
      racum animal
      santa got stuck in the chimney
      the lonely scarecrow
      the troll family halloween

      Those were the top searches on my site for the past month. Take for instance my story, Pirate Pete. This is the meta tags I have for it:

      <head>
      <title>Summer - Pirate Pete</title>
      <META NAME="robots" CONTENT="all">
      <META NAME="title" CONTENT="Pirate Pete">
      <META NAME="description" CONTENT="What happened to Pirate Pete's treasure chest?">
      <META NAME="keywords" CONTENT="treasure chest, treasure, Pirate Pete, pirate, pirate ship, ship">
      <META NAME="author" CONTENT="Debbie Williamson">
      <META NAME="reply-to" CONTENT="bedtymetales@hotmail.com">
      <META NAME="copyright" CONTENT="Bed Tyme Tales - 2005">
      <META NAME="rating" CONTENT="Safe For Kids">
      <META NAME="generator" CONTENT="The Meta Maker Wizard - © Pixel Persuasion">
      </head>

      It seems that people do search for the title of my story as well as for the keywords.

      I hope this helps.

    Oh and my site has been on the internet in different forms for the past 10 years.

  29. Everyday Miracles profile image88
    Everyday Miraclesposted 16 years ago

    It's probably the 10 years helping you out more than anything else, especially considering you're getting searches for the site title (not much competition there!).

    It's not that I'm looking for a quick and easy way to get this done -- I'm just looking for a reasonable time frame and frustrated trying to find a niche that works for me (without boring me to death).

    I know I can do it! I can do it with the subjects I love (even if I have to write a book instead of articles lol). I don't know why I'm feeling so un-encouraged lately!

    What kind of marketing do you do for the site, Debbie? Anything?

    1. frogdropping profile image74
      frogdroppingposted 16 years agoin reply to this

      EM I take it you're looking through keyword stuff? Google trends etc? There are sites out there that gather the keyword trend stuff up and produce it in an easy to read format.

      And chin up. You're probably just feeling the effects of working so hard on your hubs. It's not an easy task you guys have decided on. Quality hubs take some thinking about ... and that's just the writing. Then you've got to present it ...

    2. dwilliamson profile image61
      dwilliamsonposted 16 years agoin reply to this

      The funny thing is I don't do any marketing except I have a blog that i post to several different sites once a day - it is "Story of the Day" and it has a link to one of my stories in it.

  30. Everyday Miracles profile image88
    Everyday Miraclesposted 16 years ago

    I don't care about trends... I want ever green content. I'm using the Adwords tool and I'm not getting great results is all. I figure I've got to be doing something wrong.

    Heh, can somebody help me with a search? I need to combine two search terms into one search. I need results that meet *both* criteria and I can't get them in Google for some reason.

  31. dwilliamson profile image61
    dwilliamsonposted 16 years ago

    And yes I definitely think the 10 years being on the internet has helped. However, not all of my stories have been on the internet that long. There was about 3 years of that 10 that I didn't write anything and now what I do is write 10 new stories per month and post them to my site. I do have some pretty good backlinks out there and that has helped brought some traffic. I do have lists all down the left hand side of my pages that brings me traffic too, like new stories for May and I list the ten new stories I posted. I do currently have 713 stories on my site.
