As a person who has devloped several sites and works with the web, I am very disappointed in the "Start a new hub format page". Everytime I try to start something on that page it keeps saying something stupid and it never allows a simple easy process to let you work through. YOu need a web page, you need this, you need that, pick a format. I don't wantg to be counting my letters and spaces to see if i have jsut the right amount of text. Limit the stuff in the box if that is what you require.

AND WHEN YOU TRY TO DO ANY OF THAT STUFF YOU END UP LOSING YOUR WORK, THAT IS WHY I HAVE LIMITED MY DEVEOPLING OF HUB PAGES. jUST LIKE TODAY. i CAME BACK TO TRY AND CREATE A PAGE AND ENDED UP FRUSTRATED. MAYBE SOME ONE WILL GROW UP AND CREATE AN EASIER AND SIMPLIER FORMAT WITH OUT ALL THE HASSLE..

Ted, I don't know what is happening to you here, but may I ask what web browser you are using? Hubpages is optimised to work best with Firefox.
I haven't experienced any of the issues you seem to have.
Format page??? Start a new hub, but start a new hub format page? Are you sure?

I don't quite get what you mean...personally I think it is the simplest thing ever and I am really not a technically minded person at all.

Hey Ted, first off, since I do not know you, I am going to let your words stand as is, as in having knowledge of setting up websites.

With that knowledge, you are automatically handicapped, sort of, because HubPages Start a Hub section is quite simple to use.

You seem to be complicating the issue, because YOU cannot understand something simple.

In the beginning of Start A New Hub - you are (a) to create a title? (b) is the second line, where the title of your hub becomes the URL of the hub. Then (c) you are to pick a topic or category for your hub(should you have a problem with this, then you should read the "gray box" that comes up on the right side to get a better understanding). If you want to generalize your hub, then pick a topic, but do not pick a sub-topic(not required).

The last two sections are about formats...which are how many different capsules the hub will begin with(this is done to give you a variety, plus if you do not like the format options, then pick ONE of your own, from a previous hub already written). If that is too difficult for you to understand, please do send an email to HubPages' Staff with your complaint.

You least but not least, pick out keywords(two minimum to start with) or more. Then click continue. It will bring you to another screen and ask you to confirm the creation of the hub. Click continue and you will begin.

Actually, not really hard. Picking a title or URL??? That is the most tricky part, because of some 140,000 other members, besides yourself are continuing to write hubs or have hubs unpublished(locked in urls), which you cannot use.

There are plenty of hub writers who have covered how to create hubs. My last suggestion would be for you to do a search of hub writers, specifically targeting URLs explanation and use, on HubPages.

You might actually learn more than you think you already know now. Have a great day!

Ted , i not sure exactly what YOUR probelm is, but ALMOST everytime I re-edit an old hub page, I also lose everything-all data i spent hours-days working on!!?

I now have to have two hub windows open before i re-edit one, and when the data dissapears from my hubpage, i have to re-copy the data from the other hubpage window and start again!! and there is sometimes no button to recover draft, instead there is just a green dot!.

i have notified hubpages before about this and it keeps happening!!! I am starting.....again! to also lose my patience as well!!

I have always found Hubpages really easy to use and have never lost any work.  But I always write the article in Word first, save it and then just copy and paste.  This way I never lose what I have written. Some people have said that they have had formatting problems doing it this way, but I have never experienced this

I do that too.  I do save whatever I've written as an rtf, and I think that makes a difference.  I've had times, though, when I'm answering a question with a Hub and just go to "start-a-new-Hub" and write.  I've not lost anything on here.  (I've lost stuff on other sites that way, though - a nasty lesson.  roll )

Word or any other place to back up data including email which i use to..I send to myself the data i need to save just in case!!! Other than this, I too have found hubpages, the easiest platform/webpage to write on as it is very user friendly!

The only reason why this happens to me is because I use between 130 - 140 capsules per hub, and when i tried to use more, It was impossible trying to position anything where I wanted, so the maximum amount of capsules to use cannot be more than 140-150 and it will also depend on how myuch data you have within each capsule that makes a differance how many capsules I can use per hub.

      130-140 capsules per hub??? yikes

Dont worry, u are NOT missing out on anything!!

I do not need to have this many, its only my celebrity birthday hubs! which i can use fewer, but i like the way it loks using many capsules..

All other hubs have upto and less than a dozen or so...

Wow, I just went over to spy on 2 of your hubs prior to your answer above. Spotted one with about 50-60 capsules and another one with less, but they're very nicely and creatively done. wink
They're the nicest lookings hubs I'd ever seen. smile

I don't know...   I've been here close to three years, and I don't run into any problems for the most part.  Once in awhile I'll have a photo capsule "go a little funny", but I just re-do it, and it's fine.  I find publishing on here a heck of lot less of a big deal than it is on a lot of writing sites.

I do use Firefox, by the way - so that may help.  With regard to the HubPages team, I haven't run into anyone who IS NOT a grown-up or who loses control of his emotions and does things like type in all caps - that kind of thing.

Another daily problem is when i try and move new capsule from the bottom to the top, it would just jump to a random location which takes ages to find, and when i try to move one capsule to another place, another one moves with it!

I had problems like that when I tried to drag-and-drop capsules, so I don't do that any more.

Instead, I go over to the right side of the page (in edit mode) which shows in graphic form the position of each capsule. [Reorder box]  There I can drag and drop a capsule to the position where I want it in relation to others.  The comments capsule does seem to be hard to move though, so I just move the text or photo capsules around it.

After the boxes have been positioned as you want them, be sure to click the "Reorder Now" button or the moves won't be saved.

If the capsules have titles, it is easy to identify them in the reorder section.  If they don't have titles, the text capsules will probably show the first few words of the content, but the photos will be harder to ID.  I just count - e.g., the one I want to move is the second one above the comments capsule. That sort of thing.

If I want to add something other then the starting layout provides for, I add it. It goes right to the bottom, then I just push the up arrow, on the capsule, (before I put stuff into it)..till it's where I want. Or maybe I am getting mixed up about what a capsule is? Is it the thingy that says text, or video, or whatever?

That would be bacause you cannot drag and drop capsules, you use the arrows to re-organise.

The re-order box should be where you go to drag and drop capsules.

HubPages is not like a blog site - if you are just trying to type your whole article in the TITLE slot that won't work.  If you read the instructions on the start a new hub page you shouldn't have any problems at all.  It is much easier than other sites I've used!

I had the exact same problem with the last hub I wrote, and I ended up using fewer pictures than I'd intended. It was really annoying.

Somebody is doing something wrong for it not to work, and I think if a person can misspell 'mentor' then they'll find using the Hubtool to be quite difficult.
