   French was a mandatory course through school for me so yes, I speak some, though not fluently, lol

         Ever heard French with an Australian accent? Evidently it is hilarious to the French!
         I speak some Mandarin. It makes my Chinese friends roll on the floor with laughter!

    Je ne parlais pas francais.    I do know a little bit of Haitian Creole which is based on French, but that's because I live in Florida and I have a few friends who are Haitian.

    One of the first things my daughter said about being home from her trip to France was that she was glad people were speaking English ;-) I asked her later if she had used French when in France, and if they understood her, and she gave me one of those eye-roll "yes, mom" responses. She has not liked French in school - gave up after 3 semesters, but it seemed to be enough to get her by on her trip this summer.

    Spoke it well enough to be ostracized by a Frenchman about 15 years ago, but started to learn German and got it all mixed up.
    
    Je parle soooo shrecklich (sp)!
    
    Might work in Switzerland. Who knows.
