Unlike other "social networking" sites, getting fans is not the point on HubPages.
The point is to write quality content that people want to read, and that pulls in search engine traffic.
The number of fans one has here is irrelevant to their success - you want people using Search Engines to find the high quality written content that you provide!
I would recommend cruising around the forums and seeing what other successful hubbers have been doing...

My aim at hubpages is to earn an average of $500 or more per month in a years time. Right now I have 165 hubs and earn between $20-$30. I wanted to know if I can achieve my goal in a years time or less if I concentrate on keyword and good topic selection and don't do any backlinking.
