My next hub will be about the zone. I have compiled all of my ideas on paper. I just have to find the time to write it up, which will be very soon. Meantime, let me pose this question: What does "being in the zone" mean to you? And have you ever been in the zone?
Cool Topic...Wish I would have thought of it. I have to say...about the zone...on a big scale....that is...In my life when I could always see that when I was in a certain "zone" where things were clicking...it was always about to make a change! Maybe...most folks could agree with what I just said. In sports activities and in writing...being in a "Zone" is a great place to be. But...also as fleeting...
The zone is surely the peak of concentration. I was in the zone earlier and I managed to write a 67 page play in victorian English. When I'm out of the zone I am lucky if I can write a Haiku.
That's it for me "the peak of concentration" my zone, couldn't have put it better.
Yes, I surely agree, Andrew, that "The zone is surely the peak of concentration." That is one of the defining aspect of being in the zone. You certainly hit it on the head!
Most often used in a sporting context. An interesting phenomenon I've experienced several times.
In my rodeo days, I remember being in the zone ONCE on a saddle bronc and ONCE on a bull. Unfortunately, the saddle bronc ride was practice only, and the bull--who was supposed to be awesome; just ride 'im and win--wasn't as impressive enough to the judges that night.
Oh, yeah, and once in a fistfight when I was punching out my drug using, bad attitude son.
Um, and once in a bowling alley, the only over-200 game I've ever had. (218, NOT a 300 game).
Oh, yeah again, and fighting a wildfire once, slapping down flames with a shovel.
OK, we're getting TMI now....
Luckily for me when I write marketing copy the whole world disappears. It's me, the product and the market I'm trying to capture - a game I love to play. For me selling stuff is a sport.
If I don't easily fall into that space doing something, then the task isn't likely to get done. You could say, that I'm a zone junkie.
When I read the book Flow, I decided to design a company where I could make my living in the flow. Happily affiliate marketing had just come on the scene.
Let me thank you all for your replies. I agree with all of you. However, I think we only covered two aspects of "being in the zone": peak of concentration and and things clicking just right. I can think of two more, which I will reveal in my article on being in the zone either tomorrow evening, of course, after I watch the golf championship or on a latter day. Meantime, see if you can come up with the other two aspects of the zone that you think I have in mind. Again, thanks to all of you!
My article on being in the zone and its four characteristics has been published as I promised. Check it out.

"Depends on how pickled I get, aa. I'm beginning to wonder if anyone from HP is overseeing the peons who do most of the work these days. Surely Paul E looks at what is going on once in a while. Really having such hubs promoted as being something to shoot for is an insult to decent writers...

Ok, I'm a simple guy, and mostly a writer just trying to have fun until one of my damn novels finally makes me rich, but I'd like to know in the simplest, shortest, paint by numbers with no need to understand why, ten things to do to get traffic with no effort LOL. I see hubs that...

Do you think it's better to post an OK hub every day, or a really good one once a week?
