Will people ever learn that personally attacking the author doesn't enhance your argument?
Well, will they?
Are you talking about Hubs?
I hear you--It never ceases to amaze me how people want to "kill the messenger" (author) when they don't agree with the message. I have only had two comments like that and being the fair and open minded person I am--I deleted the comments :-)
Remember free speech--ah the good old days.
I've delt with a slew of such comments as of late that had to be immediately deleted, but I kept one of them up for comedic purposes. A case of classic 1984 double speak. Went along the lines, "you should be grateful for having freedom of speech, so please shut up." Never laughed so hard my entire life. The rest though were so nasty that many Hubbers may have risked expulsion from the site if I wasn't merciful and deleted their ill thought out commentary.
I think writing a Hub on "Basics: How to Comment on a Hub" is long overdue. I never thought I would be the person to write basic 1,2,3 steps for writing in the Hubpages community, but supply and demand compels us to move in certain directions. . .

Why can't people on Hubpages disagree without attacking others?Opposing positions can lead to a better understanding. Personal attacks say a lot about the commenters' inability to discuss a matter intelligently.

just because they don’t agree with you? Pcunix took one of my hubs commented on it then proceeded to write his own hub on it and posted a forum on it just because he did not agree with me? Then throughout the forum post he started to put me down personally. Has this happened to...

What do you think of getting one-word comments? How do you feel when you get one-word comments on your hubs? I can't decide. I'm really pleased people bother to comment at all, but at the same time much prefer getting longer comments. I don't think I've ever left only a one-word comment on a hub or...

In which cases would you flag/report someone to Hubpages, or even ask that they be banned? For example, if someone slandered your name, would you flag them? Here is a comment taken from a religious Q&A comment on Hubpages: "Compulsive lying with an inclination towards spreading...

Do you feel that people should respond to comments that are left for them on their hubs?i personally enjoy the feedbak left to me, as well as the opportunity to get to know my fellow "Hubbers" but I have noticed that there are many hub authors who do not respond at all or only selectively.

Why do Hubbers take criticism personally? Why is it that even if you try very hard to be nice when writing comments, the author still usually takes any criticism as a personal attack and snaps back?
