An Introduction to Referrals tries to break it down in an easy to understand kind of way.

Think of it as adding in one small piece to the link URL.

        instead of linking to:   http://hubpages.com/hub/examplehub

Add your unique tracker (e.g. here is "mytracker").  Two things you need to know......
1)Put an underscore infront of your tracker so for this example it would be:     _mytracker
        2) Place it in the link URL after the .com but before /hub

You need to ensure there is a / between all sections of the URL

        The end result will be:

        http://hubpages.com/_mytracker/hub/examplehub

        compared to the original:

        http://hubpages.com/hub/examplehub

Thats about as simple as I can make it.
If you don't know how to create a URL link, you will need to search elsewhere.

        Hope this clears it up

You have 2 ways to put a link in your hubs.
Firstly, add a link capsule and place it there. You also get to write a summary of the page the link goes to.
Secondly you can link from your text.
In a text capsule (in edit mode), highlight a word or two relevant to the link, then click on the symbol that looks like a link from a chain. It is up near the bold, italics etc.
A pop up window will let you put in the URL of the page you want to link to.
    Remember to include your tracker.
Once it is saved, the highlighted text will appear blue to let the reader  know it is a link.

That should sort it for you.
