   Has the idea of a live chat room ever been discussed??

      Yes, several times. 
      
      The forums were originally a place where Hubbers (people who are here primarily to write Hubs) could socialise occasionally.  Recently it seems there are people who join HP mainly to socialise and occasionally to write Hubs.  I'm not sure HP would want to encourage that, because they make their money from the Hubbers who write the Hubs, not the chatterboxes!

         Im sure too. They are here to do their job, no biggie. But does "chatting" in the forums hurt anything? just wondering...

   There are already tons of sites and services that offer live chat.  How would it be beneficial to HubPages to "reinvent the wheel?"

      theres gmail and yahoo..
      if you wanna chat with somebody, email them? then go to a chatting place. The forums always end up as chats for a bit anyway. its so super ahrd to stay on topic, I do try tho.

   its been brought up a lot, a couple of hubbers have already created public chats the addresses can be found in the threads
   
   personally, I would run far away, the forums already serve as a big distraction, a chat would be terrible.
   
   Do people really still use chat rooms? I figured facebook and twitter were the new chat-

    Doin' ok RNW, just havent been on Hp as much as I used too. Was thinking of writing a hub today ,then lost the motivation ( y'know how that goes) lol
    
    Hey how come ya aint using Adsense? Im sure m hubs could so with some backlinking ,so told myself thats what I will do soon.

    we all anyway use the forums for chatting ... kinda desperate, I know...but I wonder if giving us an open chat room would be such a good idea! we won't ever get anything else done..  besides, the religious might just tear each other to bits!

                      oh, well...people..I have windows ME. If anyone else in the known universe still had it, they wouldnt complain about anything....
