Does having a profile picture affect your number of followers in any manner?
I have had a couple of different pictures and I don't think it changes overly much. If you have something people consider offensive, that might affect it. The best way to gain followers is to comment on Hubs and participate in the community in some way. Finding a niche and simply being a presence,. People will see your name and then check out what you have written. I have gained several new followers in the last couple of days be being more deliberate about posting answers, comments and (hopefully soon) Hubs.
Hope this helps!
At HubPages, admin has said that users who put up profile pictures get more traffic than those who leave that part of their profile blank, and anecdotal evidence from the community seems to indicate authors with a picture are perceived of as being more legitimate or serious in their efforts and participation.

Do You Think Having A Nice Profile Picture Helps Attract Followers?I have noticed that profile pictures that feature good looking women seem to have more followers, especially in a short amount of time. Is this just a coincidence?
