When you see mistakes in a hub you're reading, do you hesitate telling the hubber?

Recently I was in this situation and did tell the writer. I was worried about hurting the person's feelings, but she was very nice and took the advice. Have you been in this situation? If so, what did you do?

Telling a person about mistakes is doing them a favor, especially if it can be communicated privately. If there are just a few mistakes, I may contact the person. If the work is full of errors, I don't think it is worth the trouble, since I presume the person would not be willing or able to make the changes.

When there are a lot of obvious errors I do wonder if the writer is serious in his or her writing...

I left a factual error in one of my hubs and a spelling error in another. No one told me about it. I wish they had, as I hadn't noticed it.  However, I think some people might be offended so most people just don't tell you.

Most of the hubs I read are new hubs, either from the hub hopper or from the feed. So I tend to see a lot with errors or formatting or content issues. I will usually leave a nice comment about the good things in the hub, then depending on what suggestions I have I will usually write another comment giving suggestions on things they can fix. That way they can keep the comment with the nice things and delete the comment with suggestions (and hopefully fix the things that need to be fixed).

If the hub is really, really bad I'll just flag it and not leave a comment, it's not worth my effort.

Unfortunately a lot of people tend to ignore the advice I give them even though it's things as simple as fixing a few spelling errors and a few capitalization mistakes. But I think a lot of them are new hubbers that don't realize they can edit existing hubs.

That is a good point that new members may not realize they can alter their hubs. I think it is great to receive pointers and I do take the advice seriously. Thanks for your informative remarks!

Yeah and I hope they do likewise, it's really helping that person.
If they're unwilling to admit mistakes then they shouldn't be writing for the public.

I agree. Personally I would want someone to tell me!

If it's done through a personal message then I wouldn't feel bad about it because it's helping them out but if I'm publicly posting a comment that they've made a mistake for everyone else to see then that doesn't personally feel right to me.

I hope the friendly atmosphere of HP does lend itself to the hub critiques too. Thanks
