Okay, I looked at the hubtivity to check what's going on here at hubpages when I saw that a particular hubber (<snipped>) just got 500 fans! Wow. (And I thought when will I get that many. roll)

I clicked on her (I suppose she's a female.) link and checked out her hub Wonder Full Images. I was intrigued by the title, thought I'd get some substance, and then ^@^#(@(#! A page full of photos? And comments? Geesh. Guess what I did? >.<

And then I tried looking at her other hubs, and other hubs, and more hubs by her...and ^&%@$##&!$)*

I never worry if something like unabashedness is a word or not.  My 10th grade English teacher said one of the things she loved about my journal assignments was my unabashed and knowing use of a known word in a new form, not a word, but the meaning in my context obvious.  It kind of gave me 'permission' for all time.

    Are you reporting something here?

Yes. I think it's a problem. All her hubs are mere photos! And she's still publishing more. Her hubs should have been flagged.

      Shouldn't I post here?

A lot of users seem to spam add people as fans so they get added in return. Have to admit I have been tempted a couple of times, simply because my low forum participation leaves me with little exposure to the Hubpages community!

Lots of folks put up their art work for display, maybe she's a photographer. Pretty sure the smokin hot pic has something to do with it as well.

  5. RedElf profile image90
    RedElfposted 8 years ago

I have seen a number of hubs that rated quite highly and were nothing but photos. As well, if they have some hot pics, they will get lots of page views.
As a writer, I am not overly impressed with those photo-only hubs unless the work is their own, and they are good pictures, LOL. I do love to see someone's great photos, though.
...and and as our friend pointed out, there are always those hubbers who will join lots of other fan clubs simply to get reciprocal fans.

Hang in there and keep writing!

I feel the same way, I add photos that go with my writing, if has nothing to do with the writing, it is irrelevant and unnessary, but Im not here just to collect fans, Im here to write as an outlet, meet quality people, do my best work and share some knowledge..
I need not post a sexy picture or photoshop myself or someone elses photo to draw attention either..Thats just page "hooking"..lol..if you ask me..

  7. profile image0
R.G. San Ramonposted 8 years ago

Well the problem here is that ALL her hubs are ONLY photos...NO WORDS! Aren't they supposed to be flagged for being low in quality and "not written in English"? The "author" (if that is appropriate) has been running around hubpages for 3 months already...

    1. profile image0
Justine76posted 8 years agoin reply to this

then flag them. As far as I know, flagging is up to each reader, and complaining in threads wont do anything. I personaly choose to worry about me. So what if someone else has 500 fans? or photohubs? does that really affect your abillity to write?

      1. profile image0
R.G. San Ramonposted 8 years agoin reply to this

Yes I did flag two of her hubs when I realized that all her hubs are merely photos, so I thought, if other people would know, and they feel the same way about photo hubs, then perhaps they would do the same thing. Apparently, as Nelle and queenbee pointed, hubbers should be more concerned about creating more hubs, and indeed, people are more concerned about it than looking at what other people has to offer, and rating or flagging them as they deem appropriate.

  8. profile image0
    Nelle Hoxieposted 8 years ago

So did you report them to the hubpages team? I think that is the appropriate thing to do. If it's okay with hubpages, then your time is better spent, working on your own hubs and not critizing another hubber my name. There has been infinite discussion about photo hubs in the past.

    1. profile image0
lynnechandlerposted 8 years agoin reply to this

I have to agree. While I don't care for the pic hubs, it is rude to call them out by name here in the forums. Report if you feel the need, but my time is better spent creating new hubs and generating traffic to them not to the pic hubs.

      1. profile image0
R.G. San Ramonposted 8 years agoin reply to this

I think so too (about my time better spent for writing new hubs). I just finished publishing one when I saw the hubber's name in the hubtivity, but I thought people should know about this, and I would want to get feedback on it.

cosetteposted 8 years agoin reply to this

      ditto.

if Hubpages has a problem with it, they will deal with it. I see nothing objectionable about her hubs. Some of them are even interesting, like the ones about pen drives and watermelon art. if HubPages wanted to limit images, they would only allow hubbers to add a certain number of photo capsules, it seems to me.

so she has 500 fans, so what? is she bothering you?!

      1. profile image0
R.G. San Ramonposted 8 years agoin reply to this

It's not about hubpages wanting to limit images. It's about the fans and the photos. I'm not saying that I want fans or anything like that, or that I'm complaining why I have less fans than her, but I'm wondering why she has that many fans in a short period of time with all her hubs published as mere photos. I know the photos are nice (I've seen them.), but as queenbee said, I too thought that hubpages is supposed to be a writing community.

    4. profile image0
R.G. San Ramonposted 8 years agoin reply to this

I posted this thread in the Report a Problem section, but somehow, it got transferred to the Hubber's Hangout. Perhaps the Hubpages team has looked into this already, and apparently, there was no action, so maybe photo hubs are allowed.

  9. queenbe profile image59
    queenbeposted 8 years ago

I am under the impression that this is a Writing Community not a photo book. There are plenty of other sites to post photography. I feel it is against the rules to only have photo hubs too. I came across them a while ago and was very surprised and disappointed to see that it is apparently allowed. Then again maybe it has not been brought to admins attention. Someone who has been here for a while and has the teams ear should report it. A newbie as I am has no authority. Just my opinion.

HubPages gives us the opportunity to flag any hub or forum post, and give our reason for concern.  So if you find this hubber's hubs objectionable, flag them. Then leave it to the hub team, and let it go, move on. I understand what you're saying about the pictures-only hubs.  Many hubbers find these hubs objectionable.  Naming someone in the forum however IMO is uncool.  If you really feel strongly and want a response to your concerns, email the hubpages team.

R.G. San Ramonposted 8 years agoin reply to this

I was supposed to start a thread about photo hubs, but then again, naming the hubber is the only way to show my concern, which is, to know why the hubber has been publishing only photos and receiving 500+ fans in return.

I get what you mean about naming the hubber as uncool, but it is not a personal attack (at least not that I mean to), because I was pointing to all her hubs. After all, even if I post a link to just one of her hubs, and mention "hubber" instead of a name, people will still know her. Now if I don't put even a single link, how can I raise my concern?

Photo Hubs are allowed, not only are they allowed if you look into what keywords that use "hubpages"  in the query (using adwords keywords tool) bring the most viewers to hubpages..about 7 out of 10 are searches are those related to pictures.

the suggestion to flag these is wrong..by flagging you are wasting a moderators time

Im not saying photo hubs are right or wrong,a lot of us that write are somehow bothered by those who dont write, and many of us artists are annoyed that people can just blatantly steal photos and post them here (at least it irks me)...but just having photos is allowed, save the flags for worthy reasons

*edit* i have no way of telling which actually lead to hubpages..but the top searches are for image related hubs...these people could be doing us a favor..maybe some of that traffic jumps through the related hubs links to our pages that we actually write and think on"

Thanks for the post sunforged. I didn't know that flagging photo hubs is wrong. I just thought that hubs that only show photos are of low quality, so I flagged one of her hubs. It was just shocking (at least to me) that all her hubs are only photos. No offense to everyone who found what I did here in the forums as rude or unethical. I was just thinking flickr and photobucket are more appropriate sites to showcase these pictures.

About the number of fans...I'm sorry if some of you misunderstood me. She is not bothering me, cosette; and I do have a life, tantrum. I was hoping that some people would provide an insight into why she has many fans even if there is actually nothing to read in her hubs. And for this I thank those people who explained the reciprocity in fanning lots of hubbers.

@ Tantrum: Well if you don't like people "making presumptions and suppositions" about you, I hope that you don't also make presumptions and suppositions about other people too. And don't worry, I'm gonna stay away from you.

its not my place to say flagging photo hubs is wrong ..its your right to flag what you feel breaks TOS here, but i can say that that TOS does not disallow photo hubs and if that is the only reason you draw attention to a hub, which a human will than personally look at...only to find there is nothing wrong with it, than the whole community lost that time which could have been spent on an actual violation

In fairness, some of those photos are pretty intriguing.  I can see how someone would fan this person and want to see what s/he posts for a Hub next.

the issue in my eyes, which is obvious but outside of our locus of control...

Is the hubs consist of stolen material...as do all of the photo hubs and most photo hubbers, just tons of stolen copied photos with watermarks openly posted for profit, as an artist it annoys me greatly

I was checking out one that was filled with toothpick art and had pictures of the creator, nowhere is the photographer credited, and nowhere is the artist credited.

The photos are watermarked "bollybite"  which seems to be another site that just openly steals content, someone tried to hide the watermarks in a few of the photos

We might not be able to flag and remove but at least there is that "down" button
