Every time you publish a new hub, your followers will be informed of it. Some of those followers will visit your hub, so that's a certain amount of paid traffic that you wouldn't otherwise have received. This is assuming that you're already registered for the HubPages earning program.
Followers do little to help your traffic. Only about 1% will read what you write, and only the occasional one will share it in any meaningful way that will bring you traffic. It's better to concentrate on Google or Pinterest traffic.
Having a lot of followers may have a beneficial effect on your accolades and Hubber Score, but neither of those things has anything to do with earning income. They are just good for the ego, nothing more.
You earn money from visitors from outside HubPages. Followers are internal HubPages traffic.
i think you are right. shouldn't there be something else for followers to do? do you have any suggestions?
If you follow someone, it's because you want to know when they write a new Hub. It's that simple, no need for anything more complicated.
