Am I the only one hubbing without intending to profit?

Is hubbing a waste of time if I don't plan on making any money, but would like to hone my skills? Constructive criticism, along with positive reinforcement would be my goals here instead of profit.

I'm looking to be appreciated for entertainment value as opposed to teaching, advising or promoting products. Perhaps Hub Pages is not the right venue for me.

    Any thoughts?

When I first started here my goal was to improve my writing and it still is. Most of my hubs are not promoting products and I make okay money. HubPages is a good place for anyone who wants to hone their writing skills.

I just found the thread started by Luanne16 asking, "Do I belong or am I a misfit here on Hubpages?"

My thread may be redundant. There were many comments there that applied to my query.

I still welcome any input if you care to take the time.

You don't have to earn any money if you don't want to, but why wouldn't you want to?

Yes, Its a great chance to make money with your hub, but whenever my hub is helping to others requirement then i think that will give me more pleasure than earning a money. smile

Don't get me wrong, I would welcome money, but I guess I'm realizing this isn't necessarily the place for my style of writing.

I probably need a writers' group for feedback or something. I enjoy posting knowing someone other than myself is reading my essays, but I can't really expect to profit from them here.

You aren't alone. I just write to write...keep me active. Sure, I hope what I write is informative so others will read it. I don't really care if they click an add or not.

It's a plus if I make some, but I really don't care. smile Hence, why I have so few hubs...I write when I have something to say or a good idea I LIKE.

Lol, there are many poems on here my friend. All kinds of writings are welcome, but making money is just an incentive, not a necessity.

Well put torimari! Thanks for responding.

Writers write. I enjoy writing, but feel I'm working in a vacuum sometimes.

I am mostly because I don't know how.

I write just to let off some steam.  I don't make any money at it, but I get some good feed backs whether positive or negative.  If I make money in the process so be it, but this is my therapy.

    sneak,

I don't really know how to set up to earn either. There are hubs that will help you if you do want to learn.

Thanks! I'll look into it but I really can't imagine my thoughts could make money.

    archdaw,

I'm glad writing is your therapy. It's therapeutic to me as well, but it can also be the reason I need therapy!

I think you'll find many here who write more for self satisfaction than the money.  Making a few bucks is just a bonus and kind of a game too.  You really have nothing to lose by trying it for a bit.  Good luck

Thank you Randy. I guess I'll have to try and tap into the left side of my brain, but my right side is fighting it.

I would love to profit, but I doubt it will happen, the next week or so I have to concentrate on a trade show and the volunteering of my artistic skills at THE BLACK CAT BOUTIQUE..glas blown items , oils, perfums, and jewelry has a huge waiting list and I am not even done for thr craft show saturday, so you probly won't see me for a few days or get a new hub for a week or 2..
Profit would be nice, I doubt I will ever get any, and I do this to let others in on basic things of my knowledge and to relax a bit...so I guess profit does not really matter...

lol..but I can use all the money I can get!!!

B.C.Boutique, when I first started, it was to write and see if anyone would bother reading it. I find some of my most successful Hubs have been from the heart, or on topics I feel really strongly about.
I have learned a lot about what makes a good Hub, and how to attract traffic by reading hubs on those subjects and asking questions - there are lots around if you are interested.
I do have some commercial hubs, but I still prefer to have some story along with the product.
I think you can do both if you are so inclined! But either way, keep writing! You never know who might read your work. Something that gave me a real boost when I was quite new was being nominated for the HubNuggets. It gained me a lot wider readership. You can check out the HubNuggets if you are interested in reading some great writing by some newer hubbers smile

I like the whole package - writing for fun, meeting other hubbers, reading the hubs of others, and making a little extra money, to boot!

I have earned next to nothing here . So If I measure this by the commerce aspect I ama complete failure . However the bottom line for me is that I thoroughly enjoy having a platform for expressing my views . And I do it in a sometimes humorous fashion and I do it in a sometimes serious fashion . However I have made a multitude of friends not only in the USA but in other countries as well . And every now and again I say something that resonates with other people . How can that be bad ? I have never had any Illusions about me being Hemingway or F Scott Fitzgerald . So I just come here and enjoy the process and have fun . And like I said many times some people take this and themselves way to seriously ! Keep writing and have fun !!!

Thanks to everybody for their input. Clearly I have been over-thinking this. I will do what I do because I enjoy it and let the cards fall.

It doesn't have to be about making money or getting a high score, it's about writing and people.

Back on track and grateful to be here.

    Thanks again!!!
