Can we still link phrases within our hubs to others' hubs?

I have finally got my computer back, and am no longer working with a touch pad. I tried to create some links within my hubs but couldn't. Any suggestions?

Yes, I created several such links yesterday. It sounds like you know how. What specific part of the process isn't working? This Learning Center guide offers three methods. Don't try the third--it is too prone to misuse, and they might even have disabled it because of that.

thank you howard. way back when, you could highlight a phrase and look to see if there were related hubs to link to.

They were typically not very relevant. Most users were too lazy to check them out, so wound up introducing annoying rubbish. The feature may have been disabled, but the other two methods still work well. See the Learning Center guide.

    USING A COMPUTER...

Yes.  Highlight the text you want as your anchor (hyperlink) and then click the little chain icon in your Hub Tool's tool bar along the top of your window.  Then you just enter the URL you want that text to link to.

    USING A TABLET...

If you're using an iPad or something like that...you're pretty much out of luck for hyperlinks.  You can still do a link capsule, but no anchored links in the text capsules themselves.

That could change eventually, but for now tablet users are stuck...

There are apps that can mimic desktop browsers on your tablet.  I used one called ATOMIC on my iPad when my laptop was broken.  It allowed me to add text and create basic hubs, but I couldn't figure out any way to do hyperlinks in the text capsules or to add photos in the photo capsules.

With your computer back, though, it should be pretty easy and unrestricted.

    Hope that helps.

    Aloha, Chris

PS -- and don't forget your referral tracker smile

It didn't work on your computer? That's odd. What web browser are you using? I just got a new computer with Windows 8 & it had some issues with editing text capsules. So I downloaded Google Chrome for free, and it's working just fine now.

Yes, you can. There are 2 ways to do this.

The first method: While you are in edit mode, select the text you want to link to someone's hub, then click on the little 'link" icon within the edit capsule. This will bring up a screen where you can search your own or other hubs for that phrase or enter the URL of the hub or article you wish to link to. Once you've selected the correct URL, click Save and you're good to go. This is the method you would use if you were linking outside of Hubpages, also.

The second method: You can do this after you finish editing and get back into regular viewing mode. You must first click on the "Suggest Links" button at the top of your page. Then highlight the text you want to link and a box will come up with suggestions related to your key word. Locate the hub you want and click on the little green circle on the left of the title to add the link.  When you are finished getting links, go back to the top of your hub and click on "hide links". The green highlight will go away and your phrase will appear in blue.

@ xanzacow The drawback of the "suggest links" method is that you're not able to insert your referral tracker into the link...unless there's some other method of it that I haven't seen.  Let us know if any of these suggestions work.
