Any question that one can ponder for years and still come no closer to coming to an answer.

Any question that raises other questions.

      Like what kind of questions?

I would say, any related questions, as people are people and each can see something different in the question and answers. As a tangent writer myself, I don't mind if someone has unusual associations with a question.

The typical question, if a tree falls in the forest would it make a noise if no one was around to hear it? Its a philosophical question that throws up many more questions many of which may have other questions involved in its answers.

Not just to pat you on the back, though that would be sincere, yours is an excellent question. It is clear, clean, to the point, and carries a spark that is hard to describe.

I suppose the spark is subjective, it is whatever catches our individual attentions and draws us to respond. The connection is two way. There is an energy put out by the Questioner and a receptivity and responsiveness by the Answerer.

So, how would you describe an excellent Answer?

That is an excellent question. It is in the eye of the beholder, I guess.

A question that you really have to think about before answering...

Questions that are intriguing, fun, open-ended and interesting. Excellent questions draw people in, and make us feel happier and wiser. As an aside, learning how to ask great questions, instead of interview-type questions on a date, is the smartest thing a person can do.
    Great question, by the way!

That is true for a date. You have to know hot to ask talkative questions.

Any question that the asking person truly doesn't know the answer. This expresses a desire to learn. The rest are nothing more than ego trips trying to one-up everybody.
