Do you think Hub pages should offer a 'Poem of the day,' category?
There are so many great poets on HP and I think it would be wonderful to acknowledge their talent. Anyone agree?
Totally agree that would be cool. I know they have a hubpages poet of the year award and that goes to the poet king, epigramman haha.
A great idea, but impossible. HP are slowly but surely weeding out poetry on this site. Everyday that I visit this site, they have unfeatured another few poems. Their goal is to get rid of poetry all together. The reason being is word count. Google cannot recognize poetry and it shows up as a non sufficient hub because of the small word count. I started out with over 400 hubs and I'm down to around 250.
I have had the same problem and have sent several inquiry letters to the HP team. Their response has been the same, it's either due to content or visibility. So what does this mean for us poets? Will we need to seek refuge elsewhere?
Great idea. Make it a different genre each day for variety and spice.
Yes, I think that's a great idea, wildove5. It would show that creative writing is as valuable at HP as informative how-tos. I also think it would be a breath of fresh air to read a poem of the day with all the beautiful images that usually accompany a poem.
Yes, I do agree. But I was under the impression as a poem is a hub and so could very well possibly be chosen as Hub of the Day, but maybe I am incorrect. I think all writing that is allowed under HP, to include poetry, should be considered too for Hug of the Day, as it is a hub. Now, I know the rising stars, they do have a topic for poetry there, I believe.
Faith, I don't think I have ever seen a poem featured as a Hub of the day, I could be wrong though. As for this rising star, Is this part of hub pages or an entirely different site?
Yes, it is part of HubPages for fairly new writers here who we can vote on each week under certain topics. There is an HP Weekly email that is sent out to all telling who the winners are and you can vote on them too and suggest one under topics.
I think that would be a great idea. Maybe they could do one for creative writing in general; poetry, short stories, etc. Just something that is separate from the "how to" articles. I have only been with Hubpages for six months, but I do not ever recall a creative writing hub chosen as "Hub of the Day." In all fairness, I don't always pay attention to them, so I may have missed one.
Very good idea. I hope this elicits some action!
