How do I change the html to make a link open onto a new page?

My older hubs had this code but when I tried to find it now it is gone. They still open onto a new page though.

When you're in the editor of a text capsule, click the "html" link on the toolbar of that window. You will see the string of HTML for your link, just edit it the way I've done it in the image above. yourlink.com" target="_blank"

Thanks Georgie but I cannot see the screen shot. Can you tell me where the "target" goes in the line does not bark very much ? It did not work after edit: it will not show my code in the question! does the word "target" come after the hub name? Thank

No, it will look just like this: a href="http://whateverthelinkis.com" target="_blank" and make sure the whole thing falls between this < and this >. The target part has to be typed exactly like I've done with the quotes around "_blank" or no w

I am doing exactly that but every time I save the capsule I get the message "warning=your html code will need to be cleaned up to proceed" and then my change is deleted, so it does not open on a new window! Frustrating.

I sent you an e-mail, I hope that clears it up. Sometimes the html error message will come up even if you haven't made changes. I think it could be some kind of bug.

Sorry to keep bothering you with this. I followed your instructions in the email but am still getting the error message. Some kind of bug? Do you think I should just try it again tomorrow?

Depends. Sometimes you will get the error message but it will still keep your changed. I just tried on one of my Hubs and it worked.

      DrMark1961,
I tested it and when it said that it needed cleaned up I hit OK to see what happened. Place it between the . Place the "> at the end of your link.

    DrMark1961,
I tested it and when it said that it needed cleaned up I hit OK to see what happened. Place it between the <p></p>. Place the "> at the end of your link.
    After that place, "http://[yourusername].hubpages.com/hub/[lastwordinlink].com"target="_blank&agt
Remember, if it says that it needs cleaning up then hit okay. Then save. When you get back to the capsule/edit click the link to enter your link in. and click save to get back to the capsule.

Thanks for the suggestion. Last night it would not work, today it is okay using the target="_blank"  I appreciate your taking the time to answer this for me!

Thanks, Examiner. I do not know that it helps much, but if any readers do choose to look at a link at least they do not lose the original hub right in the middle.

Is that why you went through all of that? I simply open the link in a new tab.
