Some comments I make on hubs are immediately unapproved - why?
In two instances, I made a comment on a hub that didn't appear; it just said it had to be approved by the author first, and it thanked me for participating in the HubPages community. When I looked at my activity on my profile page, it said my comment was unapproved. Neither of my comments were controversial. Why is this happening?
It's up to the author of the hub to decide which comments are approved, and which do not appear. On hubs where the author has selected to approve comments before they appear, your comment may be unapproved because the author hasn't checked in the approve it yet.
Something similar just happened. I posted a comment to a hub. An hour later, I posted a second comment - and the first one disappeared.
Many people have their comments set so that they have to be approved. Then when the author checks in, they approve the comment. It might take a while for them to check in. Some people only approve comments that are agreeing with them. If you disagreed with their point of view, even though respectfully, they might not approve them. Other than that, I do not know why.
I also disagree with this practice. All comments that are thoughtful and reasonable should be approved. The only ones that should be disapproved are the ones that are insulting and disrespectful.
I agree with what you say about comments that should be approved and which shouldn't be.
Re my comment on lisavollrath's answer - both comments showed up again. It must be a glitch in the system. I'm writing my comment here because I can't post anywhere else in this question.
Thanks, you guys. Except usually I can see the comment made, and on my activity page it says it hasn't been approved yet. In both these instances, the comment disappeared immediately, and on my activity page, it says it was unapproved. I don't know if the hub author even gets to see the comment. I sent one author an email, to which she didn't answer. I find that unusual, because she has always answered my emails before.
Perhaps it's a glitch in the system?
Occasionally some come up as spam, when they aren't spam - I've had to unspam a few of the comments to some of my hubs..I have NO idea why
My guess is, that's what happened. I recently asked another question, and someone who answered had her answer marked as spam. I chose to un-spam it.
This happens for a couple of reasons. Some authors set their preferences where no comments appear unless they approve them first. If the writer rarely spends time on HP it might be awhile before they approve it. The writer may also not be receiving notifications that he/she has comments waiting for approval. Therefore your activity page shows the comment as "unapproved".
The second and most common reason is the author disagreed with what you had to say. Some people only approve comments which reflect their own views on a topic.
There are also some writers who did not set a preference and if a comment appears which they cannot figure out how to remove they'll delete the entire hub. I've seen some questions deleted when the overwhelming answers are in opposition of the questioner's views.
I believe both those people haven't been on in awhile, so maybe they didn't find my comments. Maybe the person I emailed lost my email through a full mailbox. Thanks for your response.

For the last ten days I do not seem to be able to reply to the 12 comments that I have received on various posts. After having read an article and having left a comment, that does not seem to work either. I have mentioned this glitch on the hubpage Facebook pages and now again here. Please...

It there a way we can allow comments and at the same time "Disallow" the hyperlink? Especially for the non-members of Hubpages.Sometimes the comments are OK to allow, but I may not want the link on my page, especially when multiple links on multiple hubs are the same. I know I could...

Do you accept or deny comments that leave a link to someone's website?I don't mind people leaving a link to one of their hubs but I don't know about people leaving a link to their own website.

Do you approve all comments on your hubs, even if every third word is a swear word? I'm just wondering if it's normal to do so or if it's normal to just delete it.

This has probably been addressed elsewhere but I haven't found the answer yet. Is it ok to post a link to your own hub in the comments section to someone else's hub on the same or similar subject? I just found such a post in a comment on one of my hubs and don't know whether its a good...
