Do other writers keep you here?
There are 10 or 15 writers that make my time here worth it. While I love writing, this site has at times been annoying, and the only reason I have stayed is because I enjoy the people. If all your favorite hubbers were suddenly gone, would you stay anyway? Would it change how often you were on this website?
peeples......There have been several times through my 3 and a half years here, when I felt it was time to simply stop. My reasons are more than likely very similar to many other hubbers who may have entertained this thought.
I know for certain that the really wonderful hubbers who have actually left during this period of time, left for reasons I can definitely relate to, although I tried my best to talk them into staying. I miss every one of them.
If not for our fellow-writers, I can honestly say that I have no other reason to be here. Before even joining HP, I satisfied my love/passion for "writing" in many other positive ways, with no problem whatsoever. For 4 years I wrote a monthly column for a local magazine and left only when I no longer had the spare time to invest, due to a surge in the business my husband and I owned.
If ALL of my favorite hubbers were to suddenly leave HP?......what a horrible thought! The "change" for me would be huge. The time, thought & effort I spend here writing, reading, commenting & "chatting" would be drastically reduced. Quite honestly peeples, the thought of perhaps losing touch with the "friends" I have made here, makes me much too sad.
Sure, we can remain in touch or correspond in other ways.....but this is our "original hang-out."......almost like the friendly neighbor hood cafe where friends meet up, exchange ideas, events and support one another. You are one of the many I would miss, peeples! I'm interested in the responses you will get to this question.
Great question.......Peace, Paula
On reflection about 15 folks do keep me here. If they all left for the same place I would follow them there. On the other hand I would stay here also and meet new good people and go from there. If it were not for their encouragement here I would not be writing like this at all.
I write mostly in a different venue and genre than here and there it is all criticism as it should be because it has such an effect on people's lives. Here it is all about suggestions and encouragement and that is refreshing and good medicine in a lonely profession.
Thank you for asking a question that required some good values contemplation.
Absolutely, at this point it's only the other people that I enjoy keeping me here. I haven't written a new hub in ages and probably won't again until I see traffic return to the same levels as before. The latest Panda took a big bite out of my hubs, while my personal blogs and sites are doing well, so I am keeping my writing where the money is, and doing my own thing.
I really enjoy a lot of the people here and so I stick around, although the whining and mocking by certain people on the forums and in Q & A is reaching an astounding level lately as I'm sure you are aware.
Everyone thinks they are being attacked if you state an opinion around here. Religion/politics has always been that way, but if you even mention the merger with Squidoo in anything but an absolutely 100% positive light, everyone gangs up and says you are being mean to them. Sigh. It's like talking about certain things isn't allowed.
For example, I mentioned a few weeks ago that one Amazon capsule per 50 words was too much and looked spammy. One of the "elitists" here jumped all over me for how wrong I was. 2 weeks later - she creates a forum post asking HP to increase the words per ad ratio because it's not high enough. Whatever.... I just keep my mouth shut mostly and read anymore. All the forums are a train wreck of whiny people with hurt feelings or those who jump all over anyone not in a particular clique of people. This place hasn't been the same for awhile.
Sorry for the rant but all the folks on this question are ones I happen to enjoy!

I always ask this one question of writers. Who do you write for?The answers vary a) I write for a general audience. b) I write for a specific audience c) I write for myself. c) always makes me smile because few of us are rewarded with fame and fortune. Next best is self satisfaction which we all...

I would wipe off especially the religion topic as I hate religion big time and wish it never existed.I would abolish the 3day ban rule and opt for just deleting personal attack comments.I would chose to pay members who are active participants in the forum.I would give a bonus $1,000 prize to the...
