I'd say around 500 words. Hubs are meant to be short pieces but with as much depth as you can give them.
I think it will be best to go for the quality of material within each article, rather than counting the word count itself. But to answer the question, there is a suggested minimum seen at the upper right hand corner of your screen once you start doing your articles. It suggessts 700-1200 words and several pictures and interactive content.
700 words would be safer. I had my old hubs at 400-500 words but very low low score and traffic.

I know that the length of a good hub should between 800-1400 words, but where does it tell you how many words you have written?

Does text in news feeds contribute, in the eyes of Google, to the number of words in each hub?Or is it only the words in text capsules that count? What about text in alt box for images?
