Sorry to hear that you are in the same boat as many other people are today, especially here in Florida.  My husband has been looking for work for a year and today there were 700 other people applying for the same one job, so we feel for you.  I'm a firm believer in creating jobs when there are none.

I think from the sounds of your background that many of your skills may be more transferable than you realize.  I don't know much about the circumstances of your island in terms of employment for non-natives, but I think you'd make a wonderful teacher and maybe the answer to is put yourself out there as a private tutor to small groups who want to improve their english?

Or perhaps start up some master gardener classes?  Or you would do wonderfully teaching botany, especially the bug part?  There are limitless ways to earn money, just have to think creatively and believe in yourself.

Then I agree with some of the others, while hubpages is a great writing portfolio, there is money to make freelancing, as many of us do.  I love hubpages and make money because of it, not as much as directly from it.  You are probably more capable than I am to do so.  Best of luck!

The Bard, there is no way I would or could leave Tiggy! Losing a pet is a terrible experience that causes much grief for a long time and to do so deliberately is for me unthinkable! It is a great part of why there are so many unwanted dogs and cats in the world because people do do this and betray the animals who love us for life if they are allowed to. I could not do it. Thank you for your good wishes for me to find a solution though!

Cindy, I will eventually get royalties after it is published and selling and all of that is scheduled for autumn this year so a bit of a wait involved. The lulu version isn't selling but prices on there are too much and the postage on there is insane as I found out and complained about. I have just applied to a poetry publisher in Cardiff that have published two people I know, one of whom I was amazed to find had a book out and has become a professional poet and author. It has inspired me to think, well maybe getting poetry published isn't as hard as it used to be.

    Thanks, Falcon64!

Jyoti, I have enough ideas to work with at present but thank you again for your suggestions.

Jerilee, I currently think my most logical and doable thing to do is follow Marisa Wright's advice and tips and edit my hubs to make them far better as earners. I have already learned a lot from her for which I am very grateful. Thanks go out here to Misha too who had a look at some of my hubs and confirmed what Marisa says that whilst the content may be good they are not arranged in the best way to generate money. I had naively been starting each one with a video or a photo and this gets in the way of the ads.

Employment for non-natives here is even harder to get than for natives and there are very many looking for work here and many business closing and many places for sale. Priority goes to the Spanish and so it should because they have a far better command of the language and are from here.

The problem for me teaching as I had never done any before last year and am not qualified at all. Helping a teacher is very different to doing it on your own and without doing study on basic courses and how and what to teach I wouldn't really know what to do. I am hoping to find a teaching job needed in a school. I have a friend asking about this in Santa Cruz the capital. I would have to move though if anything is there and I get it. That may be what I will have to do. I hate moving but in such circumstances as I am in that may be the only answer.

I think that if all else fails I will be able to earn enough from here with the new appraoch to hubbing that I am learning and some freelancing as well. Next month I will have plenty of time to sort all these things out that I don't have right now as I am still doing work until the end of the month.

Not only you Bard on this kind of situation. Same thing with you I wanted to be a teacher but I am not a teacher by profession. Teacher in the US has a great pay. And apparently has some jobs opening. If I got a chance I am willing to go back in School to refresh my studies. But as of this time I need to get a job. Do I say...any job as long I also earned.

    Thanks you, lseamore!
Falcon64, yes, a full time teacher's job here is great money too. I wish I had known this years ago. I would have studied to be a teacher. It is a great job!
