Two ways, basically. You either find clients to purchase your articles, or you post your articles on your own website or on sites like Hubpages in order to earn residual residual revenue. I do both, actually (I'm a full-time freelance writer).
If you want to earn more than pocket change online as a writer, I suggest you study the business end of it and be prepared that it can take time to start earning anything.
