I wrote an article about the benefits of using cuss words. My problem is I don't know if I can submit it to Hubpages as it has some swear words in it. Do cuss words in an article automatically trigger violations or does the purpose of the article have footing to make them acceptable? I'm also not sure if I should publish it because I don't know if it will bring my overall rating down. What's the best way to go about this?
Well I for one would read it. It doesn't sound to me that your trying to offend anyone in your piece but rather explain...(sigh)....good luck not offending folks these days. That said, I agree with paradigm, you'd not likely get the approval of HP. I think it's an interesting idea in that context though.
In addition to what others have said here, be aware that Amazon has made all writers sign an agreement saying that what they write here will be family friendly...things that children can read safely. You don't want Amazon mad at you too,, do you?
Unfortunately, I've never made a penny off my Amazon capsules. I guess I don't know how to pick products that people want...Anyhow, I don't think I have any of their capsules left on any of my articles. I still appreciating you letting me know in case I should ever use them in the future.
Timetraveler, same here. I have been an Amazon associate for years and have made $7. Hubpages is the best earring for me, but still takes me 2 years to get to payout. Seems like the next payout won't take that long!
Most people won't buy just because something they might want is put in front of them. You first have to build a large and loyal following who know and trust you. Those are the people who will buy from you. Even then the numbers are quite low. Amazon works best with topical websites.
Thanks for letting me know, Scott. Most of my traffic comes from google not my followers so they really don't know me. I guess that's why my Amazon capsules didn't do well. I might still have one Amazon capsule on an article that I will probably take down and put a regular ad in its place.
Advertisers don't like cuss words.
Thus, AdSense doesn't like cuss words.
Thus, HP doesn't like cuss words.
I remember years ago having the ads disabled on a hub because I used the word "sexy".
Alas, pursuing this will probably give you nothing but aggravation. Sorry.
HI HoneyBB, Hubpages is a gentle man and ladies site. If your words offend me, I'llget back at you, right?
So be polite always.
And, enjoy the day hubbing.
HP likes to keep things family friendly as possible so I avoid using swear words most of the time.
On the rare occasion that I do need to use one, I replace one or more letters with an asterisk and the Powers that Be have never given me any trouble about it.
I'm known to embellish with a damn, damned, or danged old every once in a while.
Thanks everyone for your answers. I think I'll put it on my own website instead. I don't believe it's offensive or tasteless. Cussing is a major part of our world and it just discusses that; however, I realize that some people will be offended at the presence of these words
I STRONGLY RECOMMEND YOU DO NOT DO THAT!
I'm guessing you have AdSense ads there. Sooner or later, some anal retentive moron will report it and you will very probably lose your AdSense account. From what I hear, it is next to impossible to get your AdSense account back once it's revoked.
On the other hand, if you don't have AdSense ads there, then party on.
Though might be a good idea to check the web hosting platform's TOS first.
Thanks for the warning. I think I'll take your advice as I do have adsense ads on there. Maybe, I'll put it on my other blog that doesn't have ads at all.
Sounds like it would be a fun read. I hope it is a success.
If your other blog is hosted by blogspot.com, do not do it. They are all interlinked.
You're @#$%-ing right it is! Sure as @#$%! Abso-@#$%-ing-lutely!
I would try it out. There is a new series called End of the F***ing World which is on Netflix, a family platform. As above has stated, asteroid are a great way around it.
I wrote a piece containing the words serial killers and other associated synonyms for a piece on a movie about a cannibal and while writing it it flagged with a small symbol. As all my content was associated with relevance to the article, I published it after reading up on the guidelines and it sits still featured on my page.
I think anything can be published if done the right way— I remember seeing an article in here a few months ago about a lady who writes covering being a submissive in some sort of sex article. I read it and it was informative and tasteful but still contained words I wouldn’t consider as ‘family friendly.’
*my predictive text changed asterisk to asteroid lol sorry
Thanks everyone, I wish there was a way I could submit it to the Hubpage editors without publishing it so they could decide and advise me.
You could just submit it and see what they do. They are not going to ban you for submitting it.
I would have to publish it in order to submit it, wouldn't I? I'm not sure if that will have a negative impact on my rating with Google or Hubpages.
Yes, that's what I was suggesting. Publish it. If they reject it nobody will ever see it. Yes, Google is strict and HP is stricter. HP might give you a warning and not publish your article, then you'll know. Whether it changes your hubber score, my guess would be not much if at all, and even if it did what does it matter? Google will never crawl the article if it's not published. Or, you could just email the team and ask them if they can review it without publishing.
Thanks Sherry, I did hit publish but it will take up to 48 hours to find out if it gets featured so I'm not sure if I hit publish while it's not featured does that mean that it's not really published online? It's a little confusing. Either way, it's there for HP editors can see it now so they can decide and let me know.
It is actually published while it is going through QAP, but I don't think it will show up on your profile unless you have your profile set up to show unfeatured hubs. So, it is published, it's just hard to find.
I decided to publish it on here so I guess I'll find out one way or the other within the next 48 hours. I think it's an important message and hope it inspires people to not be to judgmental of people who use swear words when they are not using them in a demeaning or mean way.
I think the worst that could happen is hubpages doesn't feature it. It's also possible they won't serve advertising on it for not wanting to risk a problem with Google.
I also kind of imagine this thing won't be nearly so outrageous as we may think.
I think that in our world we all need to grow up. It's like humans are an emotionally immature species. Words shouldn't be thought so harmful, in my simple man's opinion.

This is very difficult for me. I have created 3 hubs so far and am learning more and more about writing hubs as each day progresses. One of the more enjoyable and surprising aspects of HubPages is the community here. It is amazingly friendly.I have been experimenting with writing styles, subject...

Just for a bit of background - I have been writing online for years, and literally have millions of words "out there". Only once did I have an AdSense account, and if I remember correctly, it was for a blog that is rarely used. It still appears, if I right-click on the blog, and view the...

People have been asking this, so I looked at my account. In the week that my application was approved, I have been earning a few cents. I looked under earnings, and it shows that money earned from HubPages is 54 cents. So, I thought, am I getting anything from AdSense? Yes, I am. I went to the...
