Could I please ask the HP community to please give me a list of your own articles titles that are doing well in bringing in traffic?
I would greatly appreciate it if each respondent could give me about 3-5 articles titles that have done great or is currently doing good page view numbers for you.
I would like to analyze your successful titles and try to figure out what makes them click.
Thank you all.
I would be also curious to learn more about what people do to choose titles. Mine tend to be very straight forward and I use the main keyword of the article in them.
Basically a title needs to be something someone is going to type into the search engine, often in the form of a question. Hence the term query applied to search engines. As further clarification, titles that are clever never work because nobody tries to be clever when typing a query to get an answer. So you'll end up with titles with "what", "how", "when", etc.
I really think that the title should just say what the article is about--so that someone doing a google search can easily find just what they're looking for. My hub with the most traffic for the time being is titled "How To Grow Wisteria." (I am actually surprised how many people want to grow wisteria.) But now that I think of it, some of my other titles might benefit from being more straightforward.

It does say to keep titles under 65 characters, but Google has upped the limit to 70 now.
I second the others. Stay straight forward. I always think "if I'm looking for this info, what would I type in a search bar?" Many of my best are quite simple and whenever I see this type of question I always say to remember we're not in a check out aisle where catchy titles will grab a potential readers eye...we don't need to catch their eye, we have what they want we just need to be found so make it easy to find it. Save the creativity for the article. Lastly, the more your topic is needed by the masses, the better it will do. Everyone cooks so it's popular. Not every makes shoes out of palm leaves so not so much. Just examples. I don't mean to offend anyone's palm leaf shoe Hub. haha.
You are probably going to get general suggestions but not the specifics that you asked to analyze. The reason I (and most others) are not going to give you specifics is because this is a public forum and people will see the answer and then make copies of the articles that are doing well. SInce you are new here I am not sure if this has happened to you yet. If not, it soon will.
It is a good idea to perfect your titles though. The quality of your article can get you on the first page of Google but the title is what is going to encourage searchers to click.
As far as what works best, I am doing an experiment this month and picked about 10 titles to change with power words. They are not words that people would choose, so instead writing "Las Vegas Dog Names" the article is titled "Awesome Las Vegas Dog Names" (fictitious example, of course!). So far they are working. Some popular power words are effective, proven, best, new, powerful, remarkable, startling, exciting, authenitc, awesome, etc. There are lots of sites out there with lists of words that will help you build some good titles.
I have read many articles that advise using your keyword at the beginning or at the end of your title. I have had success with that method.
When I am revising an article, I operate on the keywords and add them accordingly. It helps me determine how to improve my article.

Since a discussion concerning this subject on another thread was apparently disturbing some folks there--and I do agree it was off topic--I am taking Norah's advice and putting the question here. I didn't really know what topic forum to use but I suppose someone will move it if it is in the...

Since I see this mistake being made again and again by new members (and a few older ones), I just want to remind you. The title of your hub is what makes or breaks it.The title:1. Is a big indicator of what it ranks for in Google. 2. Is what teases people enough to get clicks on social media. 3....

I'm relatively new to this site.I know most sites of its type do their best to be "Google friendly" which translates into "family friendly" (a phrase I hate, by the way). Over the years when tempted to use profanity either in a title or in the body of an article (and I can...

I've tried lots of different titles like "An Idiot's Guide to Power Tools", "A Beginner's Guide to Power Tools", "Power Tools for Beginners" and similar.Views have dropped to about 8 per day. I guess what's happening is that people search for information on a specific...

Do the titles of your article tell the reader what is in it, but do not encourage a reader to click to read more? In the past I have read that titles should be simple but it now appears that titles should tell the reader what is in the article but also have some catchy words. Google will point the...
