After a hiatus, I am back writing.  My traffic is up but my earnings are in the basement.

I wouldn't keep money in the basement.

I'm seeing a drop on other sites as well. Webmaster forums also are talking about it.

The world economy is heading down, so that might be why.

Yes, doom and gloom.  Thank you for your reply, nonetheless.  Helps to know that I am not the only one noticing this.

CPM is down significantly from September.  So even though your traffic may be the same as September, your earnings will be lower.  You can see CPM in the Ad Program Reports on the Earnings tab.  CPM represents what advertisers are willing to pay to place ads on our hubs.  They pay differently depending on the time of year.  Back to School Shopping time = higher CPM.  Holiday shopping time = higher CPM.  October is kind of a funny month between back to school and the holidays so we earn less.  Hang in there.  You will be earning more in November and December with the holidays.

Thank you so much-- very encouraging! I really should put more time aside to get to know the business side of Hubpages.  I appreciate your kindness!

My earnings are dropping as well though my traffic isn't down much. Sometimes it's just that advertisers aren't paying as much for views/clicks for a particular month. Sometimes it's that the keywords we're using have lost their worth.

Thank you.. what you say makes a lot of sense-- about the keywords de-valuing, especially!

Yes, earnings are definitely lower. There is normally a drop at the start of business quarters, especially at this time of year when advertisers tend to hold back until the Xmas season is in full flow. But it does seem a bit worse this year.

Thanks for your reply.  I will keep soldiering on into the Christmas season.  Blessings!
