I know from experience that the occasional long article does work and is sometimes necessary, especially if you're out there competing for a high rank among established wordy work. Quality as always is an imperative.
My analysis of The Waste Land stretched out to 9195.
chef-de-jour:
I just took a look at your Hub on the Waste Land. That was a long Hub. Good work.
I don't know if there is a break point where length (with quality) has a diminishing return regarding search. I have always heard that around 1500 words was optimal for an article length, however, I have never seen any hard data to back up that estimate.
This would be nice to know. Just did a google search and still couldn't find the answer to this.
Isivwe:
Thanks for looking. I'm not sure how to find out either. I was hoping someone in the community is better than I am about finding out about Hub stats?
Not sure how to find the longest one on HP, pretty much impossible, I would think.
Mine is 6,383 words. I like long articles
Hmmm, this is interesting. I have a hub that I split into two parts because I was worried about it being too long. Now, I'm finding that people are reading part 2 but not part 1. Weird. Anyway, maybe I should leave it together as one hub. Do people read your longer hubs through to the end or do you lose their attention along the way?
I have no idea - I don't use GA It does fairly well, traffic-wise. It gets around 500 views per day (almost 200k since publication in May 2018) and has 153 comments.
I don't think I'd ever split a hub unless both parts targeted different aspects and keywords of a topic. I'd rather go long.
Wow! I think the views and comments speak for it. Even if I put my two articles together, I will only be at about 3,500 words. So, that is what I am going to do. It bothers me that people aren't reading part 1. I feel like they are missing the background info. Thanks Bev!
My lawn mower troubleshooting one is nearly 11,000 words. I wish there was a way of implementing multi-page hubs with maybe tabs for each page or a proper contents module for navigating. I suppose it's feasible to use a text module for contents and implement the same text module on several standalone hubs that are part of the same article. Then have hyperlinks to each hub. The problem is that the text module would be stuck at the top and couldn't be displayed on demand.
Has anyone done this? I used to have a contents module in a long hub, but clicking on an item in the contents just resulted in a jump to the div tag of the specified text module within the same article.
We had that at Squidoo for a while. It didn't work out too well. Either readers couldn't see the tabs or they couldn't be bothered to go to the next section.
I do have a series that is connected by one hub but I think the editors snipped a lot of the links. Ha ha... I just checked it and there's not one link left to any of the 16 articles that are based around it, even though they are all on the same niche site. Crazy. And it still mentions links in the article. I need to work on this.
I used to have a 13,000+ word article here, but has since been moved elsewhere. Even though it's about a mostly dead computer programming language, the critter still gets daily views and has a bounce rate of only 4%. Go figure.

I give! I've searched the first 3 or 4 pages of "Getting Help" Forum and I've read the entire Link's Capsule section in the Learning Center (http://hubpages.com/learningcenter/using-hubtool). That Hub, by the way, has a large number of Quick Links in it. How do you create a list of topics...

what factors help you decide if a hub is too long? I know different styles of hubs based on topics and what not help determine how long it is going to be. I worry about what is to many words though.

I write for a smaller niche, and it is seasonal. I have been penalized for this and am now forced to put all my information into one gigantic hub ... it looks awful, its ridiculously long and quite frankly many are going to land, go cross eyed and leave. In an attempt to salvage my writing which is...

Does large Hubs attract more visitors than smaller ones?

I wrote a hub on swimming pools that's around 1000 words. And a lot of my videogame hubs are above 500 words. Since my return on HubPages, I've wanted to know something. Are 500-600 word hubs enough or are they now considered poor? I'm asking this because originally a writer did not need to get...

I just wrote my longest hub to date, and wonder if it will be read. I know that the guidelines recommend up to 1500 or more, but will people read something that hits about 2500?
