Mobile Editing on Captions and Links Not Working

Been struggling with an issue for 3 years, and it has finally come to a place where I need to see it resolved if possible. From any mobile device I have tried, it is impossible to edit photo captions/sources, and links which are already in place. Since I have no laptop or desktop, but only a Samsung tablet, this means I cannot finish newly written articles enough to publish, or sufficiently edit older ones. Previously, I just went to a friend's house to borrow a laptop, which gave me an opportunity to see the article presentation off of mobile, as well. But since lockdown, I can't. I have a number of articles that are within minutes of publishing, if I could complete these capsules. Moving into the desktop editing version from the mobile device does not help. I am still locked out of using these features. To clarify, I can upload photos, but not add captions. Since I do primarily technical writing and how-to's, this is a big deal. Suggestions or bug fixes, maybe?

It doesn't seem to be possible to position the cursor at the end of a caption by tapping on the text. If you could do this, you could backspace delete everything (just tried on my phone). However I know the keypad on my Samsung tablet has cursor keys so this should be possible. Can you try using these keys (If you have them? You can also install different keyboards on a tablet if the one you have doesn't include them).

Unfortunately, it has typically been impossible to click into captions boxes at all. Ocassionally, I have been able to do as you suggested. But the very random capabilities make me think it's a bug. *shrug* Thanks for your response.
For the moment, I have solved the problem by adding captions in text blocks below groups of photos.

I find that images are pushed to the right almost off screen on a mobile device, so they have to be slid left before you can tap in the caption box.

Thank you for the suggestions eugbug! On my tablet and husband's iphone, the photo capsule is pretty well centered. But your observation did get me experimenting (again), and I've established that moving the individual pics around does seem to influence being able to get into the captions box. But it still requires a million random clicks to bring up the keyboard. I checked if there was simply a significant delay--no. The good news is that the function does (barely) work. The bad news is that it would take a significant chunk of my life to use it from my tablet. Tablet memory use seems to have only a small influence on the function.
