    Which internet public photos can be used?

      Images need to have a Creative Commons commercial use license, or be clearly labelled Public Domain.

      You can get such photos from Pixabay, Unsplash and Wikimedia. Always check the license because some PD images require you to cite the owner, and it is always good practice to link back to the original source.

      Besides Unspalsh and Shutterstock (both are excellent), you may check 500px as well as I have found some incredible images there. But yes, do make sure to check the license

    It's simpler than it sounds actually.   

    ALL pictures on ALL websites are copyright (so it's illegal to use them),  UNLESS you can find a statement somewhere on the page that says otherwise.

    If a photo is Creative Commons, then you must credit the photographer. 

    The easiest places to get photos are Pixabay and Unsplash, because you don't have to worry about credits - you can just use the photos and that's that.   

    I find Wikimedia fairly useless because the copyright information is unreliable.  Some images require you to cite the photographer, some don't, and some have been uploaded by people who shouldn't have.
