Amazon Capsules Not Blocked by Ad Blockers

I see a lot of people are concerned that Amazon capsules are blocked by ad blockers. I don’t notice that.

I have tested with the following web browsers where other ads are hidden as expected, but my Amazon capsules display complete with my description text and the 'Buy Now' button.

    • Safari with AdGuard
    • Firefox with Ghostery Ad Blocker extension
    • Chrome with “Adblocker for Chrome - NoAds” by Filteringlist
    • Avast Secure Browser with Avast Adblock

Can anyone confirm that they have an ad blocker that blocks Amazon capsules? Half my HubPages income is from Amazon sales and I want to be sure I’m not missing out on possibly getting more in case there is an ad blocker that works.

If anyone can show me another browser configuration that indeed does block Amazon capsules, then I will take the time to change all my Amazon capsules to Amazon text links instead.

It’s going to be a lot of work, so I only want to do it if necessary. I’m sure the same goes for all of you who have Amazon capsules in their hubs.

Could you give me the name or a link of one of your hubs that has an amazon capsule so I can test it out? I don't have any and I looked at a  hub of yours on Spinditty and I only found text-based Amazon links.

Hi Brandon. I guess it's okay to post the link since it's in response to your request.

Let me know if you see the Amazon data and 'buy now' buttons.

      Thanks.

Adblock plus with Chrome shows them just fine.  Even checked adblock to ensure it was turned on for the site.

Thanks for checking that, Dan. So far that seems to be the pattern.

Also, have you checked this on a cell-phone (or only on a PC) ?

Yes Beth, I checked it on my desktop, iPad, and iPhone.

Glen, I found that switching all my Amazon capsules to in-text links has more than doubled the number of my Amazon purchases.

However,  I'm not sure whether that's due to the switch, or whether I've just got better at placing Amazon items in my articles.  smile

Why not try in text-links on a couple of articles for three months and then decide?

Beth, I use in-text Amazon links on many hubs too. But my hubs with Amazon capsules do much better with sales. I guess everyone has different results with that.

I place a lot of text within the capsule, which pushes the ‘buy now’ button down. I think that helps with sales. I see many people use Amazon capsules with none of their own content in the capsule. They leave it empty so it only shows the item image and ‘buy now’ button.

I'm a little confused. In my first article I used a couple of relevant Amazon capsules for the guide books I had used on my trip. In order to get through QAP I had to remove the Amazon capsules and have therefore been wary of using them ever since.

Liz, You say they were relevant. The point you're missing is that they need to be 100% related to the topic suggested by your title. If your article was a guide about your trip, then the guide book doesn't fit in.

Your article would have to be a review of a guide book. Then the capsule would more than likely be accepted. That's because it would be 100% related to the title. I have an article where I review five books by Ben Franklin. I have five Amazon capsules in that hub and none were ever snipped. It works if you do it right.

In addition, you need to place your own content in the capsule rather than letting it default, and make it clear that you use (or read) the item.

Glenn, I would have offered exactly the same advice at one time.  However, I've tried adding Amazon capsules to my new Hubs using exactly those guidelines - and they are being snipped.

I've found that if I use exactly the same product with exactly the same description but with an Amazon link instead, it gets through.

One example - I wrote a Hub about Turkish belly dance and finished with three DVD's teaching how to belly dance in Turkish style. I reviewed each one, but I only included one Amazon capsule, for the one I thought was best value. In the capsule, I explained why I recommended that DVD over the other two.

        It got snipped.

When I replaced the link with an in-text link, it was accepted.

I can only go by my experience, Marisa. I have many hubs with Amazon capsules. And two hubs that have five Amazon capsules each. None ever got snipped. I use in-text links in some hubs too, so I get good stats on how each method works for me.

Of course, results vary for each individual. It all depends on how you implement it. I like to push the 'buy now' button down below long descriptions. That seems to help with sales.

Eurofile, there's no need to feel wary.  After all, what's the worst that can happen?  The capsule gets snipped.  It doesn't stop your Hub being published.

However as I said, the easiest option is to add Amazon links in your text instead.  They are much more likely to be accepted. Just make sure you say why you're recommending that particular item.

Euro, I agree. Links within the article work much better.
