For the first three years, my profile score on HP was around 85. I was redudant on HP for the next two and a half years and my score starts to declined. Presently it is ranging between 42 and 43. Can inactivity be a factor? Or  what can cause this?

I vary between 82 and 85, but I see some pretty good writers with very low scores. Generally the very good writers are nearly always to the top so they must be doing something special.

I'm only guessing here, but here's some ideas:

1, Presentation. Look at Linda Crampton's work.
      2. Knowledge of the subject presented well
      3. Good command of English. I have seen mistakes with everyone here including myself and Linda C, but in her case, it is extremely rare. She takes a week and prepares well.
      4. Engagement. Welcome new people and show interest in others and broaden your views as you are beginning to do in the Forum.
      5. Good photos and originals are even better
      6. Videos and polls help.
      7. Let everything relate to each other. Even if you have a rose and a tulip, it must still be a flower garden.
      8. Long paragraphs (Relates to presentation) are ugly and off-putting.
      9. Write some decent topical essays: The Question of Fear in the Human Condition. But research and reference it. Ok Bro. There are more. Best wishes.

Okay, Manatita44. I will look into Linda Crampton works soon. Is she on HP? I will follow this up writing pure researched articles or essays again, I know I diverge from essay to writing poems lately. You are always welcomed. Thanks.

Bev, got the link working to get to her. We've connected. Thanks.           I'v take time to study a related profile score past 5-years. What carry my attention was a troll whose profile score equal (0) zero! Yet he/she carry the day in the forum. I learnt many interesting things in discussion in the forum. The buttomline: the profile score will depend on many factors like hub score, collective average of all hub scores, followers, followings, and regular weekly submission of one or two hubs only. Others depends on participation in forum posts, posting a thread or discussion, and much more. One writter opined or cried out. "Hubpages does not like me again" when his scores still recedes! Lol! Bev, good day.

Yes, she is AliciaC who posts here every day smile

The troll has been banned - again.

And yes, again, your profile score depends on lots of things and will ever remain a mystery.

Bev, presently, it's between 42 and 43. But from what I've learnt so far, and my efforts that I'll apply. I hope it shoots up a little. I am going to take time to re-edit all my hubs first.                 I realize certain grammatical errors still exists. Then, i'll put out every week a new hub, and other factors steadly  as an experiment. At the end of the day, observation and conclusions, so to speak. Bev, stay safe and healthy.

            theragged edge,

Why don't you help him? Your score is always impressive! Anyway, from the note above, he seems to have covered a lot now. Much Love. - Manatita

Well, I have an all-purpose 'how to write for hubpages' article that just about covers all the basics. Several other hubbers have even better ones - I read one yesterday. xx

Yes, she is. A very fine writer, too. Which reminds me of something more. Her articles are longer. To my mind 1250 words or so, are good for HP. You can go to about1500. More is a risk unless you have mastered your craft. linda crampton at hubpages.com, should bring her up.

Manatita44, I've last night read two of her story. These are over 1500 words...good long reads. I've got some knack of what a feature article should contain. 2000 words would be easy target for me. I've certain articles on HP which are just around 2000 and featured.

A lot depends on motive as well as writing skills. There are a minority that make money here and for them presentation and content is crucial! Even for those who simply love their craft, like William Dale Holland (Billybuc)

I mention this, as a long article will not be their concern. For someone like me who writes to inspire, it will be a concern, as I wish to reach human hearts. We are all different. My experience though, is that if the work is too long, greater than 2,000, then people will skip a lot or speed-read and may miss your story. Life is busy for all.

This is where the length of your paragraph, videos, photos and capsules, skillful writing, etc, becomes important. Re-read your work. Best wishes.

Manatita, I can do and be my best at 2000 words. Thanks for all the pains you take in reaching out to me.

I think being active in the forums helps to raise hubber scores also.

Oldrose, I am getting that lately. Need an experiment to observe more.

I also noticed the drop in your profile score and wondered at this too.

I hope this discussion is able to give plausible reasons why this happens.

I think a combination of good quality articles and being active, engaging with fellow hubbers seem to work. I'm intrigued now to check my score before and after vacation to see if there's a drop due to inactivity.
