I do wish HP would make up its mind!

Previously, when titling my articles, I've used the standard lower case for words such as: by, and, a, to, of, .... etc.  As I was taught in school.

Then, along would come the editors, and 'correct' them all to upper case....

Sooooo...I started putting them in upper case...and NOW they are 'correcting' them to lower case!!!

PLEASE MAKE UP YOUR MINDS!!  This is crazy-making!!

They have made up their minds to use the APA style for titles. All the words you listed out need to begin with a lowercase.

When not sure put in your title here https://capitalizemytitle.com/

That's what I do--and it gets changed anyway.  That's what I mean.  They can't make up their minds!

You also have to bear in mind that I'm pretty sure the editors on HP do not work together.  They are all sitting at home being paid by the hour. I am not sure how long (or even if) their work is checked when they start out, or if they are just given a manual of HP rules and told to learn it.

Every now and then, you see posts about inconsistent or even downright incorrect edits on a Hub and I'm fairly sure it's a new editor who has been hired and doesn't know what they're doing

Yeah, I've had the same problem, especially with APA titles, inconsistent corrections.

To be honest, I leave it to Grammarly and then follow the APA Guidelines. With that said, just keep writing, and eventually, it'll work in your favor. The fact that editors are looking over your work is a sure sign of getting published sooner.

I know things change but this is ridiculous, why is it necessary to capatilise everything in a heading? I say leave those words as lower case.

This is to augment information from comments about inconsistencies when HP is using APA style. It is possible that the APA itself is making updates to its style. I spent 33 years as a professional editor. In 2008 I was hired to edit and proof a dissertation by a doctoral candidate. That was my first brush with APA style because I'd been using both Chicago and AP style in my work. In the middle of the edit, he sent me a brand new APA style manual and some printouts of updates that hadn't made it yet into the new manual. He told me to discard the first manual he furnished me and diligently use the new one and the update sheets or he would be in trouble.
I had to go back and correct some of my already-made corrections, and it was frustrating. The dissertation was nearly 900 pages long and I was half finished.
APA style (American Psychological Association) is a style for academics and, in my opinion, is irrelevant to every day writing. HP needs to toss it. It is good for styling references, footnotes, etc. I prefer the old AP (Associated Press newspaper style) that rarely ever changes.  Most of the styles in both manuals are taken from the Chicago Manual of Style, and if I'm having to go beyond the ordinary, I always refer to Chicago anyway. That way I know the style I used in 1990 is still going to be good in 2020. APA is too wishy-washy, so you may be blaming the wrong party when you blame HP for inconsistencies. (HP are you listening?)

This is welcome update. I hope HP is aware?

I agree.  Why should a writing site NOT for academics be using such a style format??!!

Marisa. I think you are onto something there. Recently, I've suffered some very odd "edits" that have introduced errors.
