I have been weary as of late, battling the Covid comeback and such. However, I have attempted to write an article or two. Although my interaction limits currently because of health. The latest, https://discover.hubpages.com/religion- … rent-Days, is on Discover (so confused), but it is still an extremely low score. I am using editing tools and nothing seems to improve. Feeling it might be time to throw in the proverbial towel. Any input to improve my recent hubs or score to get out of the 60-70 range.

As for the editing tools, one says 100%, okay, and another says errors. Editing not my strength at all.

    Thanks for any input

I think you are trying too hard. Maybe simplify the language? 'Culminate' means end. In the context you have used it, I think you mean 'accumulate' or 'increase'. You don't need 'consequential' before 'history'. Try to see if you can express the idea in simpler terms. Florid words don't mean better writing. You might try the style app, Hemingway for suggestions.

Add an introduction so your reader knows what the article is about.

Make sure the images are legal to use and that you credit the images properly.

      Good luck smile

I tweaked it. Thanks so much for these suggestions from both you and Jodah. I guess I will keep trying. It was so kind of you to help.

A good thing to do is to read the articles on the network sites, especially the ones you would like your articles to be moved to. Get an idea of what works there. Then branch out and read similar articles on other sites. You can't produce the goods if you aren't consuming plenty of 'end product'.

Many of your articles are blog posts, i.e. personal stories. However, they are not what HubPages wants on the network sites. It's a magazine-style platform, so magazine-style articles work best. If you were compiling a magazine for yourself, what kind of articles and information would you include? Do you currently have a favorite magazine? Or websites where you like to lose yourself? Essentially, what you like to read is the kind of thing you'll be best at writing.

By the way, I think when you write in your natural voice, you have a lovely way of communicating.

Thank you for all the tips. I will continue to improve. My writing is purely a means of expression and ministry. I value those with talent way beyond my own. So again thank you.

I agree, I think maybe you are trying too hard, Kathy. An impressive use of adjectives etc in this article, but maybe a little too much. Try just holding back a little and write how you speak. That would make it much more engaging.

Thanks so much, I appreciate this.
Funny, when I have written more like myself here on Hub pages, they have slammed me. Thought this was what they wanted. I will try to do me. However, they have not liked my simple natural writing either. Rough time for me, I guess. I really appreciate your taking the time. Thank you!

I don't have much of an ability to sugar-coat; and with that said, here's my impression. You are writing about a topic that is highly relevant today. That makes it non-evergreen; it is not going to have a long life on Discover or a niche site. You need to think more about what to write before you write it.

Then, you have a currently relevant topic spliced in with religion. While you are free to write about both, you are creating a grey area of who it is relevant to. To be blunt, personally, I won't read anything about the man-created condition C***d-*9 nor any of the society-manipulating events that it bore. I also won't read anything written from the perspective of any faith but my own.

I know that my opinion may not seem relevant, but no man is an island. Hence, we can assume that a percentage of people think as I do. You need to decide who you are writing for. Also, how many of them will read about such topics? Do Christians want to read about C-19? Do those interested, if anyone is, in C-19 want to read about Christianity?

You also mention personally relevant information. Evergreen content is never about you or I, or any author and is also not about the people around them. This is a significant issue.
Furthermore, you are writing about a current historical event or time and place, and you insert religious titles and concepts into the piece--"Be the Light You Seek."

If I were likely to read a piece on the times of C***d-*9, I'd expect it not to be selling me on faith. I'd expect it not to be telling me what type of person to be. In fact, ultimately the piece is not about the times of C-19 but is rather a sermon. That’s okay, of course. However, there’s so much of that on HP. I don’t believe it will take you far as a writer.

I will point out a few more issues:
Your bio: ”Our Stages are unique, Kathy enjoys sharing her latest thoughts and stages through her writing and looks forward to learning about yours.”
While I do wonder what you mean by “stages,” I have an idea. However, HP suggests that your bio should be used to convey your skill and suitability as a writer to the given topic. Yours is a social statement of sorts.

In your article, you said: “How can people not weep as the surrounding wars are increasing?”
This is kind of a random statement. You have not specified the type of war that you are speaking of. There are numerous ones happening right now, so you need to specify.

You said: “Even though humanity has learned from history, it would seem the past's civil wars have taught us nothing.”
I cannot get a feel of what you are saying here. Which civil wars, and which lessons? Also, have we learnt, or not learnt?

You said: “The state of current affairs has frustrated, and the best of friends and family have chosen banter over discussions or, worse, silence out of fear.”
The state of current affairs has frustrated whom or what? How do you know that many friends and family choose banter and fear over actual discussion? My point is, that substance is essential. Repeating thoughts common to this day isn't going to help move your work to niche sites.

I hope you don't take this the wrong way. This is as politely as I can put it.

PS--After all that, you may not have been writing about the times of C-19, but that's what I got from it.

        Gwenny Oh,
There is a significant amount of detail in your response. I appreciate you taking the time to share. I will take all of this into consideration as I seek to reach out with my writing. I enjoy hearing and learning other's thoughts and opinions. This is a wonderful way for me to grow in my writing and as a person. "The Stages" are relational to a book of mine with a similar Title. It was to be a memoir, and then I kept living. After that miracle was when I started my Hub experience. Writing is cathartic and medicinal when in a daily battle. I will never win a Pulitzer, but I enjoy working on it. So again, I thank you for taking the time and I appreciate your candor. You are awesome for sharing.

I want to say thank you again for taking the time to help. Already I have found a better editing tool. You offered many helpful tips for me to check out. I appreciate the sweet comment of encouragement about my natural voice writing. (That was so kind.) I will seek to remain myself as you and Jodah shared that fluff does not make good stuff. It was wrong for me to think that, and I appreciate learning where I need to work. You're fantastic for taking the time to give ideas for improvement. While I am often not confident with writing, it has been a wonderful ministry and helps me stay engaged in hope. There are days it is what gets me through. Even though I am not the best at writing, I try to share my heart. I also enjoy the Hub Pages community. It is one place of true diversity where we can come together and share ourselves and knowledge. That is pretty wonderful!
      Thank you again!
