Exactly what is meant by 'overly promotional'?

I've been editing and editing, removed nearly all links on a hub, only 2 remain except a couple that link back to Hubpages.  Still getting that 'overly promotional' flag.  So what now?  Must I remove all links to get out of the 'overly promotional' jail?  I will if need be, just saying ... I do not understand.  Do YOU? THX from Carolan

The weekly newsletter this week spells it out for writers.

Are you referring to your article about diet v detox for wellness etc? It has way too many Amazon ads to pass QAP.

You have to show you have personal experience of each Amazon item you include, and it must be directly relevant to the topic of the article. It is also better to use in-line links, rather than Amazon capsules. Take a look at some of theraggededge's articles to see how it can be done successfully. For example, https://exemplore.com/wicca-witchcraft/ … Witchcraft

THX but no, that's not the hub I meant, though I'd removed all but 2 amazon ads from there also and they both include personal reviews. The question was meant to be more general, like what constitutes a judgement call of 'overly promotional' in the first place?  Must a hub have NO outgoing links in order to be featured? Sometimes it seems that way and I have seen comments saying such, just that it feels confusing.

Here is our FAQ entry regarding overly promotional content: https://hubpages.com/faq/#overly_promotional

You can totally include links! As long as they are not self-promotional, and do not come in bundles of the same domain.

Sometimes, mods make mistakes. So if you feel like something isn't right, please email team@hubpages.com with a link to your article.

      Thanks!

There is no "exact" answer. All sorts of things can trip it:

    Too many links
    Where the links go to.
Too many adverts (eg Amazon in case of HP)
Pretends it's factual but promotes a particular commercial service.
Irrelevant ads (eg Amazon in case of HP)
Insubstantial content with lots of ads
Promotes products that HP or Google don't like (eg smoking)

The list is much longer, just first things that came to me...

THX Paul. I see now it means far beyond just links. I understood that part, but not the rest.

After countless edits, am STILL getting that 'overly promotional' message on this hub. There are only two links, one to Amazon and back to hubpages. I changed a lot of text and tried to avoid repetition of text, though there are only so many variations for the word photo on a page about photo editing (image, pic, etc). If any of you are willing to take a look, that would be much appreciated.

Hi. The link goes to a “404. Page does not exist” message for me.

I just clicked it and it worked.

That's because it's your hub. We can't see it because it isn't published. You have to click the link in the notification. It'll say something about getting help from the community. That generates a post which contains a special link so that forum members can read the article.

You have to follow my previous suggestion. That link will work for you, but it won't work for anyone else.

Sorry, think best I step away from this for a bit. I am on overload with Hubpages right now. I thought I did follow your instructions @theraggededge, appreciate your responses and did try but obviously it still didn't work. I've spend SO much time editing and trying different methods but right now am hitting nothing but more roadblocks. I just received an email about another hub that I worked on for many hours yesterday, originally created years ago and recently edited a ton. Shocked and insulted that Hubpages seems to think it was plagiarized? Claims it was published elsewhere?  This was just over the top. I am not inclined to even respond and will likely just delete it. I respect quality publications, but feel like I am trying to hit a moving target here. Frustrated beyond belief.

Go to the last email you got from HubPages regarding the rejection of the article. Scroll down until you see a suggestion about getting help. Click on it.

You don't have to copy and paste the article link yourself. A new thread will be generated here on the forum. It will contain a special version of the link to your hub that other hubbers can use.

Re the other one flagged as duplicate, it's possible someone else copied it. Contact team@hubpages for help.
