        You get 3 searches/day I believe.

I can get 10 searches per day at that site.

It would be great to hear from the writers of this niche site.

I don't write for this site, but I do have one article over there. It has doubled in views since July. However, that article has been hovering at zero pretty much since the move to Soapboxie so that wasn't hard to do. It saw a record 40 views in the last month. Onward and upward!

In other news, there's a big Google update happening, started Thursday but apparently still ongoing...

I was wondering about a possible update. Three of my articles (on Owlcation & Letterpile) saw a nice bump in traffic the last few days. They are well out of peak season making this a pleasant surprise. Hoping it will last, but I'm assuming if it's related to this update it will likely be short lived.

Yes, I've seen some positives, but wary of saying much at this stage. I'm going to see how it settles out.

The niches aren't all equal when it comes to how lucrative they are. Letterpile, for instance, has lots of poetry and fiction and is generally a low earner. Soapboxie tends to have lots of politics and opinion pieces, so it a low earner overall. Advertisers typically aren't keen on paying out much money on opinion pieces and creative work.

It seems like those niches are doing relatively well. But the niches like Dengarden, which has lots of high-value DIY, home improvements, etc. are doing less well.

It could also be related to Dengarden having more Amazon links than Soapboxie, which is an assumption that seems reasonable.

That's purely a first impression, and of course, a generalization.

It's not totally idle speculation, as it can influence what new material I write and which niches I aim for.

But as you said, it's early days...

Whatever update is happening it's creating (sometimes extreme) upticks in traffic for me across the board. I'm not expecting it'll last, I'm sure it's in a volatile stage right now, but it's refreshing! I have a lot of articles on SoapBoxie on another account and yes, my traffic for those is great.

For me, this is a reminder to update stale content but to never delete it. You never know what's going to take off (however temporarily).

My view is that people should have as many hubs as they can regularly update and maintain. For me, that's probably somewhere around 200 - 250.

I delete maybe 10 or more each year, stuff that I've lost hope on. I think I have a reasonable idea what has potential. Obviously, when the sites in the dumps, it's harder to tell, but I keep maintaining and updating, improving for at least a few years..

Moving them too can work. I had one recently that did nothing here that's earned a few hundred over the last few months elsewhere. Some things just aren't cut out for HubPages.

I've generally got much better at figuring out what works over the years, most of the stuff I've deleted over time was material I wrote early on. Some of it was embarrassingly bad.

Probably 70% of my writing on here earns zero or close to zero, if I'd not deleted or moved stuff over the years, zero earners would be 90-something percent.

Do articles spring back from time to time? Yes, but that has to be balanced against the many that never do. I can write a hub in a matter of hours. But I can spend way more time over the years updating, maintaining, improving. At a certain point, it's just not worth it...

That's interesting because I don't write that kind of content here, mostly because I've always understood it not to do well on the Web. I definitely would have been, because it's kind of right up my alley, though not that much these days.

I don't really write much opinion stuff on here, but I do have say, an article on the impact of tourism that HP stuck in Soapboxie, plus some pros and cons stuff on social issues, such as the death penalty and other things.

It's not really a lucrative subject area. Even when traffic is high, you don't earn much.

That's happening right now, in fact, views are up but earnings not so much!

Practical how-tos were always the best, but Dengarden still seems to be down in the doldrums!
